DeMint: 60 Dems 'best thing' for GOP [good riddance to treacherous RINOs]
Politico ^ | 2009-04-28

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) insisted Tuesday that Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter’s decision to switch parties and give the Democrats their likely 60th seat could be the “best thing” for Republicans.

“If [Democrats] begin to expand spending and government programs because they have a couple more votes, I think there's going to be a lot of backlash from the American people,” DeMint explained during an interview on CNN.

“That may be the best thing that could happen to the Republican Party right now,” he added, “because people know those checks and balances are very important and they've seen the Democrat Party overreach already.”

Agree. And since they have the unbreakable majority, PLEASE send Collins and Snowe to join them. I’d rather have five lions than 51 lambs. Lenin took over a country of 160 million with 20,000 committed party members.

Sorry I disagree. Voters will not turn to the GOP just because they are upset with the DemocRATs; the fiasco known at the GOP Congress is still too fresh in everyone's mind. The GOP will have to earn it based on reformed ideas and fresh candidates.

The bright spot in Specter leaving is that the GOP will have a fresh candidate the RATS will have the tired old candidate.

Just wait Jim, until Obama and McCain turn tens of millions of illegals into voters (and I shouldn’t have to tell you how they’ll register or how they’ll vote).

Somehow I'm not convinced that the remaining 37 GOP Senators are going to lead a bloody Bolshevik-style revolution on the US Capitol.

I think energies are best focused on regaining majorities in both the House and the Senate, even if that means reaching out to non-orthodox conservatives.

There’s one in every crowd.

If majority is all they care about they should join it.

How about Big Realist. I don't know what figures you have, but I haven't seen ANYTHING that leads me to believe that Rush Limbaugh conservatives make up anymore than 27% of the population.

How many times does 27% win state or national elections in the US?

No moderates in the GOP means no GOP. No GOP means conservatives become, toothless, feckless, irrelevant whiners. Sometimes the truth hurts.

You know, I hadn't even looked at it that way. Specter looks like a bad version of a Bond villain, minus the fluffy white cat. He will not be missed.

This will be interesting. I suspect more than a few red state Democrats have been relying on the Senate Republicans to block the craziest stuff so they don’t have to make hard votes. They may have to come forward now to start voting against this stuff if they want to hold onto their seats.

There is not BALL one amongst any of the Repubikans. They should all resign and walk out in mass. That would show some real courage.

There is a VERY bright lining to this cloud. Everything now is 100% their doing. Its *impossible* for us to obstruct thhem in any way. And history has not been kind to the concept of one party having both houses and the presidency.

This is actually a stir of the repubs pushing the trash out.
