She called the doctor and the doctor told her to come in if the fever last for 3 days. I told her to call the doctor and get a swine flu tests and try to get tamiflu.
She needs to find another Doctor ASAP! Tell her to call the emergency room and ask a nurse what to do.
I would certainly recommend getting a tamiflu prescription ASAP, at the very least.
A there is no clinical swine flu test. It has to be sent to the CDC and the results aren’t available for days, so it’s no help for the individual patient. They can check for generic influenza, but the screening test is only about 80% accurate, and there is a LOT more seasonal flu out there then swine flu.
B there are a lot of nasty side effects to tamiflu and it’s not a cure, only MAY help limit symptoms.
C. Hopefully the mother will behave in a rational manner and give her kid tylenol and or motrin and see how the kid does.
D. If everyone with a fever starts to run to the Emergency Room, they better bring a sleeping bag and a backpack full of food because it’s going to be a looooonnnnnggggg wait to be seen.
3 days! tamiflu only works best in first 2 days
needs a new doctor!
