WASHINGTON Several officials say veteran Republican Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania intends to switch parties, advancing his own hopes of winning a new term next year while pushing Democrats one step closer to a 60-vote filibuster-resistant majority.
The sources said an announcement could come later in the day or Wednesday. The officials who provided the information did so on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to discuss his plans.
Specter is a 79-year-old veteran of five Senate terms, and one of only a handful of moderate Republicans left in Congress in a party made up largely of conservatives.

We’ll notice the difference because the number of Senators also determines committee membership, and losing a senator from the (R) list means memberships may get shuffled, and more (R)s will me shifted out of committees.
He has generally been pro gun hasn’t he? And he voted for most Republican judicial appointees. I will bet the Demo left does not welcome him with open arms. It would be great if he faced a strong primary challenge next year from his fellow DEMS. How ironic.
What a cowardly @sshat. Couldn’t let go even having had 28 years in the club. *spit*
I hope so. Lose his club membership and forever a pariah to those that gave so much to accomodate his sorry butt. Karma's calling...
Does this mean that dems will now accept the “magic bullet “ as gospel?
A brain transplant.
If McCain defects, we’ll throw in Graham as a bonus.
Sphincter’s switching parties? What’s he going to do, become a Republican?
and Cornyn.
Throw in Snowe too. Specter’s switch raises the average IQ of both parties and certainly improves the image of the GOP. Like McCain, the only reason Specter claimed GOP was to increase his electability. The GOP needs to mount serious primary challenges to each and every RINO and maybe they will all get out.
ROFL
There are WAY better lines on FR than any comedy show I’ve ever seen/heard.

I hope this rino checked with scottish law..
They already had Specter’s vote on nationalizing healthcare.
ya, the political landscape could change between now and Nov. 2010. He may regret going Democrat when election day ‘10 rolls around.
Small price to stop giving Dhims “bipartisan” cover.
I would use a word the could get me banned .
Although he hasn’t really been a R anyway .
