Napolitano declares public health emergency @ 1:01 pm by Eric Zimmermann
The United States will declare the swine flu outbreak a public health emergency, Homeland Security Director Janet Napolitano said today.
Speaking at a White House press briefing, Napolitano said the declaration is not as severe it sounds.
"It allows us to free up state and local resources" that otherwise would not be available, Napolitano said.
The declaration does not necessarily convey the authority to initiate quarantines.
"We're nowhere near that kind of decision," Napolitano said.
Also at the briefing, the Director of the Center for Disease Control, Richard Besser, warned that there will likely be more cases of the swine flu detected in the U.S., adding those cases will grow more severe.
Well, when you think about it, do we have anyone approved to declare this kind of emergency? No secretary of health and human services, no surgeon general. Who would do this?
She has no medical expertise.
Someone needs to roll the clips of them poopooing paranoid scenarios in the release of the DHS report. Janet and her female wrestler moves in charge of a pandemic emergency is more bizarre than any of the usual extremist scenarios.

I had to laugh. They said they were going to ask people getting on planes how they feel. Heck, if I were going somewhere, I want to get there, not be told I cannot fly if I am feeling a little under the weather. Stupid........

CNN’s scroll corrected her statement to say Napolitano says it’s a statement of disaster PREPAREDNESS.

They pretty much smoothed over it as I suspected they would. She is in way over her head. Gibbs looked grim like he had a lot on his mind. There was one thing they said that rang true, personal reponsibility. Know if things progress you need a back up plan in place for caring for yourself and/or your family.

Just keep your hands clean and stay out of Mexico and crowds.. The CDC says two flu drugs, Tamiflu and Relenza, seem effective against the new strain. Roche, the maker of Tamiflu, said the company is prepared to immediately deploy a stockpile of the drug if requested. Both drugs must be taken early, within a few days of the onset of symptoms, to be most effective.
I’m trying to figure out if this is an over reaction or a red flag.
JMO but they seem to want ML really bad. Instead of all this doom and gloom you would expect trying to calm people with just common sense precautions.
And I would want to know exactly what they may be injecting everybody with. I am leary about vaccines.
I think they looked great compared to what they will look like if TSHTF.
Just another “crisis” excuse for the Commie D’Rats to use as a reason to spend more money. Napolitano is a dumbass. She left my home state of Arizona in shambles.
