Never heard of a flu virus that kills in 24 hours. 48 hours maybe, more likely 72 - 96, but 24 seems a little aggressive for the flu. Unless the victim had a compromised immune system.

I have heard of reports of people going from asymptomatic to dead in less than 24 hours in the 1918 pandemic. Rare, but not unheard of.

24 hours from symptoms to death is usually a cytokine storm. Ironically it is caused by a too-healthy immune response.
