"Nobody in this country realizes that cap-and-trade is a tax -- and it's a great big one," Rep. John Dingell (D-Michigan) said Friday.

Whether or not government takes a bite (and how could they resist?) — any expenditure to “fight global warming” is a dead-weight economic loss. And that goes double for any “solution”, where government takes a bite.
Rep. John Dingell (D-Michigan)Wrong. Everyone, and I mean everyone, knows exactly what cap and trade means, and know that it's a tax.
forgot to ping ya.
Just because the DemonCraps Minions don’t understand cap and trade doesn’t mean that “Intelligent” people (Republicans) don’t know exactly what it is.
How stupid does Mr Dingle (ling) think his people are? Obviously - Pretty stupid.
NO, they know what they are doing. They are intentionally hammering the "Self-Destruct" mechanism to force a global currency and global government on us.
The only question now, will the effort force an armed confrontation, or will they pear into the Abyss and blink.
This is not going to end well.
Note that Dingell is not actually against a carbon tax. In fact, he favors it over cap and trade. He even thinks it’s a good idea. But he would go for cap and trade if we can “avoid making the mistakes the Europeans made.” Let’s not give Dingell a lot of credit here. He acknowledges that cap and trade is a tax, but he’s not against it on that basis.
The Democrats never met a tax they didn’t like.
“Boy are you optimistic. It is coming, so get ready”
Actually, its not. An amendment requiring 60 votes to pass cap and trade passed. Byrd and Rockefeller of WV have already said they will not vote in favor of cap and trade and there are other senators from coal producing states who will join them. So, it is for all practical purposes, dead.
Why is it called “Cap”?
“Well, you really need to pay closer attention I think.”
To me the essential element that always doomed it was that there are too many Dem senators from states that produce coal for this ever to pass. If they try to do it with regulation those Senators will still step in and block it. If your electric bill doubles in one month you are going to be fuming mad and you will definitely know who is to blame. Dems always try to obfuscate how something gets paid for, but they can’t hide this one.
It's never that simple. While I don't have the numbers at my fingertips the number of coal projects canceled over the past year has been substantial. New Nuclear projects are having trouble getting traction for various reasons but primarily uncertainty of the regulatory environment and the cost of that regulation. Abandonment of Yacca mountain is the handwriting on the wall from this administration as well as the appointment of antinuclear commissioner to run the NRC and anti coal & nuclear to head the Energy department. We are talking about very serious investments and years of development. Even a coal plant takes 2 to 3 years to construct and a nuclear plant 6 to 10. Who is going to make that kind of commitment with an uncertain regulatory environment? There are lots of ways to kill a technology and they will use as many as necessary.
Do not, I repeat Do not, vote for any incumbent in upcoming elections from local to federal. Republican, democrat or independent.
I completely agree. But those are gradual changes and are meant to stop future coal plants. Which goes to my point that the way Dems get what they want is often gradual and covered under levels of bureaucracy, so as your energy costs go up it's hard to figure out what happened. The cap and trade bill will be immediate. The change in your energy bill will occur within months and you will know it was cap and trade that did it, and you will blame your Senator or Congressman if he voted for it.

If I understand it correctly, Big Brother would assign every factory or utility, etc., a maximum amount of carbon emissions for each year. That is the ceiling, or "cap." If your plant goes over its carbon emissions allotment, you get fined - or worse. But you can trade (or buy) allotments from another party which would enable you to go over your assigned "carbon footprint." The party who sells you part of his "cap" must reduce his allotment accordingly. So the total emissions theoretically remains at the total limits that Big Brother determines.
