It only works because the GOP is unwilling to provide the one correct answer: get the Federal Government the hell out of the energy business and the health care business - it has no right to be involved in either and its massive control over both will bankrupt the country.

Privatize Social Security and Medicare, end tort law abuse by rapacious lawyers, end federal restrictions on offshore drilling, sell off public lands to private buyers. These are some of the answers. I know they are "impractical", by today's elevated standards. And if the public does not care to follow, so be it. Sometimes people's mistakes - including a mistaken faith in centralized state power - have to cause them real pain before they are ready to consider changing.

"It only works because the GOP is unwilling to provide the one correct answer: get the Federal Government the hell out of the energy business and the health care business - it has no right to be involved in either and its massive control over both will bankrupt the country."

You name only two of many of what the federal leviathan's hopelessly screwed up.
Andy lemme ask you something that dawned on me a few months back when the obamination began.
Do you think these people give a tinker's damn if they bankrupt the United States of America?
My answer was not no, hell no; in fact, *that's* their goal.
And from what I can discern, their only goal.

Exactly WTH they do want to do to us, the Republic and the future of both is enough to make me climb under the bed sheets and pull 'em over my head. It's that devious. (& let THEM prove me wrong visa vi their action(s))

"Privatize Social Security and Medicare..."

BWHHHHHHHHAAAAA!!!
Andy.
We can speculate as to the suspicious nature of the October (Surprise!!! :o) ) financial meltdown occurring when it did. Or who was or wasn't behind [it] if anyone, a'tall.
But you must admit whatever it was and whoever they are it has made for the best, and easiest understood reason why SS will never be privatized to the average nabob. {shazam!}

Medicare's another matter, one I'm intimately familiar with. And Medicare won't stop until the system's broke, and that shouldn't be too much longer. In which case they'll [read: Liberal-Socialist AND Republican] will simply call the program a different name, crank-up the printing presses and carry-on with the charade.
Andy, they make the rules *and* the money, my friend. Need I say the rules are skewered and the money, funny?

"...end tort law abuse by rapacious lawyers..."

Ask Newt G about that one, Andy.
The ratio of lawyers to other occupations represented in our government, at all levels is what? 5 to 3? 5 to 1? 5 to 5?

This issue's in the same vein as the Conservatives insisting the size of the federal government be shrunk when in fact the numbers of those working FOR government --in one capacity or another & at all levels-- are about equal or rapidly approaching the number in the private sector as it is, today.
Think today's American will vote against their own perceived self[ish] interest(s), Andy?
I don't if only because they never have.

"...end federal restrictions on offshore drilling..."

Then whose hand would our elected leaders kiss, Andy? /sarc
Moreover how in the world would the Saudis et al ever complete their enormous projects if not for oil revenues primarily generated because of USA imports? /sarc x 2
Not gonna happen.
Hell it ain't happening and persons known or unknown have already seen to that.
Curiously the oil market went berserk *around* ~1 year before the general election, ~6 months afterward Bush "took measures" to curtail the gougefest knowing damned well he'd not be around to see ANY of it through.
Coincidence, right?
A no-brainer, a classic follow the money.

"...sell off public lands to private buyers."

Again, speak to Newt G 'bout that one.
Or FTM ask the clown running the carriage concession in Yellowstone or 100s of thousands working concessions from coast to coast & border to border.
They'd universally say, with help from Vichy Americans *and* quisling mediots, why that just ain't right.
And America will agree!!
NOT predicting the future here my friend, just remembering the past. ;^)

"These are some of the answers."

Good ones too, every damned one. Not one of which I w/could disagree, FWTW.

"I know they are "impractical", by today's elevated standards."

Just the opposite by my standards, though. ;^)
Very practical, no extremely practical and Andy that's what makes you (& me), extremists.
~Don'tcha know?

"And if the public does not care to follow, so be it."

They didn't this time my friend, and voted accordingly.

"Sometimes people's mistakes - including a mistaken faith in centralized state power - have to cause them real pain before they are ready to consider changing."

Yes only I wouldn't say "sometimes", I'd say all the time. In the meantime I'd under normal circumstances be enjoying a heaping helping of good ol' fashioned schadenfreude, too.

It's quite apparent to me, now, the disloyal opposition knew before Plan #1 was executed they'd have to cover those like you & I. Their actions have been scientifically calculated to bring whatever pain there'd be, to us.
