There was an excellent BBC series that presented the space race from both the American and Russian point of view. Unfortunately it hasn’t been released in the US DVD format, at least the last time I looked. My father knew some of the people at Redstone Arsenal and I’m sure he would enjoy seeing how they are portrayed in the story.

I have a big photo autographed by all seven...14 X 16; also individual autographed photos of all seven.

I also have a photo of Glenn with an autographed, stamped envelope cancelled on the day of his first flight.

I lived in the same apt. with the first seven's secretary when they first moved to Houston. I met several of them--and Neil Armstrong--long before he walked on the moon.

A neighbor almost ran over Carpenter in the parking lot one day.

Those were the days!

Forget politics, men like these will not walk the earth again.

Looking forward to the day when men (and women) like those will walk the surface of the Moon and Mars.

Men and Women like this have not walked the Moon and Mars for one reason, control.

The United States and the world learned a lesson after the rise of America............Colonies will leave.

Interstellar Colonies, once established would thrive and have the high ground. Politicians have no desire to fund any organization or colony that could eventually control them. Those colonist would embrace the best values of man and the greatest desire...........Freedom.

Its not worth it in power or investment for current politicians to fund colonies, their power lies in the welfare state.

That’s a masculine trait. We are all women now.

"There was an excellent BBC series that presented the space race from both the American and Russian point of view."

About a year ago, I stumbled across a very interesting PBS Nova documentary called "Astrospies", about the manned military space programs of the United States and the Soviet Union. They went over the U.S. military's Manned Orbital Laboratory (MOL) program and the Soviet military's Almaz program. MOL never flew. It was canceled in favor of unmanned spy satellites. Almaz produced the Salyut 3 and Salyut 5 manned space stations.

They interviewed the MOL astronauts and one of the Almaz cosmonauts, and also got a tour of the Almaz training mockup, which is still in perfect condition somewhere in Russia.

I found a link to the program here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/astrospies/program.html

Glenn

I want a waterproof, floating picture of him so I can set it in my toilet and, well, you know . . .

Was a hero, now a zero.

It’s already a great movie. If you haven’t seen “The Right Stuff” you really should.

I have my GI Joe Mercury space capsule put away. But I also have the 45 record that came with it. It’s take-off to splash down of Friendship 7 edited to three minutes. “Zero G and I feel fine!”

Would you be amenable to scanning and sharing it? Hi-def and large size?

I would love to but don't have a scanner or the know how. It's in a big frame...the pic is the one of the seven astronauts in flight gear standing in front of a jet.
