WASHINGTON - A U.S. official says the captured Somali pirate who held a merchant captain hostage will be brought to New York to face trial.
The government had been weighing whether to bring the suspect to trial in the United States or hand him over to authorities in Kenya, which has an international agreement to prosecute pirates.

A Very fortunate young man indeed. Three square until further notice with book rights too!! The first of many more immigrants to follow this channel. Trial lawyers payday for sure.
How many visas for his relatives that will be helping him in his time of need will be issued?
After he is acquitted on a technicality or released because he reached the age of 21, will they be permitted to stay in the US as well?
There existed an opportunity to save the taxpayers some money.
Can’t we just put a bullet in his head, and claim it was while he was trying to escape, and call it a day?
Once again the taxpayers get screwed. A rope on the Bainbridge would have been cheaper.
How can they try him in New York, or anywhere else in the US?? For good or for worse, this guy is a Somali citizen.
Are they going to make him an honorary citizen, so they can try him under our constitution??
Far better to turn his young ass loose and return him to Somalia, and shoot the little bastard if he tries it again.
He’ll get juvenile probation and his own reality series after a tear-jerking appearance on Oprah.
Boy, is that going to be a mistake. I can’t wait to see what sort of circus this is going to be.
I’ve got a feeling some Freeper is going to have him and his entire family as neighbors within 3-years.
Our government in action (one word or two?).
They should have strung him up from the yardarm.
Why not Washington DC?
After all, couldn’t he get a fairer trial there with a jury “of his peers”?
Right you are, this is an enormous mistake, and this will be a gamo of political ping-pong through the courts for some time. This is a preview of what it will be like to try and dismantle Guantanamo.
In any case, you always want to leave one survivor alive, to go home and tell his story to the others...
COURT HEARING AT THE UN???
I’m not even sure we can prove the guy committed a crime... Then there is the ACLU, NAACP and other fun organizations to come his defense.
Considering that Al Sharpton referred to them as “volunteer coast guards” on his radio show this skinny may become the new Toast of the Town in the Big Apple. Expect Danny Glover to meet him on his arrival.
Maybe Lord Zero will adopt the miguided youngster and teach him to live honestly and someday he can grow up and be resident.
Acts of piracy on the high seas can be prosecuted by the country where the ship is owned.
Well isn’t that just special? Now we’ll have to pay to rehabilitate him, buy him an educaton, car and house and then he’ll probably sue us for repatriations.
