The NRSC has made it a policy for decades that in the event of an incumbent GOP senator being challenged in the primary, they will always support the incumbent Senator - regardless of whether the incumbent Senator is a liberal Republican or a conservative Republican.
I’m not saying it’s right. I’m not saying it’s wrong. It’s simply their policy.
Might be it's time to change their policy.
I’d be inclined to distinguish between a necessary RINO, because the state is liberal, and a traitor RINO, who defies the party on key votes. I think Specter crossed that line.
So, maybe it’s not the business of the NRSC to attack an incumbent senator, but I don’t think they should be out there supporting him now, when it’s not even campaigning time, after he has defied the party on what may have been the most important vote in the past 50 years.
