Pat Toomey, who as a little-known congressman nearly defeated Sen. Arlen Specter in the 2004 primary, announced Wednesday that he will mount another challenge when Specter seeks the Republican nomination for a sixth term next year.

Toomey, who stepped down Monday as president of the Washington-based Club for Growth, appealed to his conservative base in a statement released just before 8 a.m., while he made a series of TV appearances in the Philadelphia area.

"Pennsylvanians deserve a voice in the U.S. Senate that will honor our values and fight for limited government, individual freedom and fiscal responsibility. I will be that voice," Toomey said.

Toomey's announcement coincided with "tax day" — the deadline for filing federal income tax returns — as fellow anti-tax activists planned protests nationwide.

Betcha the RNC and Repub Senate Campaign Committee will support Sphincter, just like GWB did. Toomey will have to raise his own money. No matter how disaffected PA repubs are with Sphincter, it might still be uphill for Toomey.

The fix is in. Spector will get the support of the state appratus.
We recently moved in Florida, we changed our voter registration at same time and moved from GOP to Declined to state. As long as the GOP is going to be a bunch of RINO’s they can count me out.

They already are.
And Senator Cornyn of Texas has just endorsed him. go figure.

Its uphill all the way, but my money cannot be better spent than fighting the good fight to unseat the bastard.
Support Toomey now!

Correct. Actually, the NRSC has already backed Specter.

God Bless Pat Toomey. He won’t be the Senator from PA any time soon as that state has been lost to the Left. We are lucky that a RINO even won it. The real interesting thing to watch in the Toomey-Spector race will be the 2012 presidential aspirants. Palin, Huckabee, Romney et al. Will any of them stand up on principal and camapign for Toomey? I’d place a solid bet that Romney wouldn’t rock the GOP boat. I doubt Huckabee would either though the Life issue will probably keep him from endorsing either one. I have hope that Palin might show her principles and support Toomey.

If all these Republicans are going to support a RINO who joined two others in betraying their party on Porkulus, when they were otherwise able to keep their entire caucus together in opposition, they prove to me that they deserve to stay in the minority. I don’t have a nickel’s worth of use for them, since we can’t count on them to do any better than the Dem dingbats in power now, in case they ever retake Congress. I fear that millions of conservatives all over the nation are effectively disenfranchised.
