National GOP to Back Specter
American Spectator ^ | on 4.14.09 @ 4:28PM | By W. James Antle, III

National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn has thrown his weight behind Sen. Arlen Specter, who is likely to face a tough renomination fight against former Club for Growth President Pat Toomey:

"My job as head of the NRSC is to guide the GOP back to a majority in the Senate," wrote Cornyn to Pennsylvania Republicans. "I can't do that without Arlen Specter. With him as our nominee, I can target our campaign resources toward beating Democrats and growing the Senate Republican Conference."

Get involved in the Republican party and push for a change in leadership.

I AM involved with the Republican Party. I have supported and voted for every conservative the GOP has run since Ronald Reagan. I talk to Republican conservatives NOW.

The only way to take back the party is to get conservatives elected to County Committees on the local levels. More than that, we should STOP FUNDING THE RNC on the national level. They are part of the enemy. They support people like Boehner and Spector. Save your money. Use it to support individual Republican conservatives for office.

I do all of this. But I'm afraid its not enough.

Tomorrow they are having tea parties all over America. I will be attending one in my local area. Its ESSENTIAL as MANY people as possible attend. Unless MILLIONS of Americans come out, the mainstream media will ignore us.

Every American who reads this should be unable to sleep, just as I can't.

It is ESSENTIAL this document be circulated to EVERY AMERICAN in ANY WAY WE CAN. Our freedoms, even our lives are at stake.

If we can't take back the GOP, how can we successfully launch another party?

Read my post. Get active in the local GOP. Stop sending money to the RNC. Work for INDIVIDUAL conservative Republicans running for County Committee. The County Committees control the Stte Committees and by extension, the State Chairman. Run yourself if you have the talent and inclination or support others that do.

Write Bone Head Boehner and other RINOS and tell them that you are out to support anyone who opposes them in the primary, or even a Democrat, if that is what is needed to flush them out of office if they don't change their ways.

Chrissie Whitman and Michael Einsenberg of Goldman Sachs set up a PAC to get RINOs elected. We need a PAC to back conservative Republicans.

Unfortunately, third parties have historically been doomed for failure. We must take back the GOP and flush the RINOS out of office ANY WAY WE CAN.

Good to hear.

How do we go about getting elected to County Committees?

Yes, we should starve the RNC of cash and support only conservatives.

I do all of this. But I'm afraid its not enough.

Why do you say that?

I will be attending a tea party also. I hope to convince as many participants as possible to get involved in the Republican party and remodel it to serve conservative interests.

“How do we go about getting elected to County Committees?”

In New Jersey, it is structured so that each town has a male and a female County Committee member. In many cases, it is hard to fill these slots as they are unglamorous and the only real function is to elect the County Committee Chair who can have a lot of power and influence in how elections are run and how money is funneled to local candidates. In some cases if an individual local office holder leaves office, the County Committee people can nominate the successor until the next election is held. An incumbent has a better chance of fending off a primary challenge. To get elected to a local committee, you need to approach whoever runs the party on the municipal level or the highest municipal official of the GOP party for support. OR you can just GO OUT, and get enough signatures on a petition, which you need anyway, and get yourself put the ballot for local committee member.

That is how it works in the Soprano State. The mechanics may be different in your state. You might be able to check with your local Board of Elections for guidance in how to do it.

“Why do you say that?”

Its going to be difficult. MONEY is the grease that gets political campaigns going. Incumbents of either party have a leg up on opponents as they can dispense favors in return for support later. A LOT of the GOP RINOS like Whitman, Kean, Spector, etc, have large warchests and they can use that money to overawe opponents in a campaign. Additionally, a lot of RINOs are wealthy social liberals whose only interest in the GOP is as a vehicle to protect their personal wealth and they are more than willing to sacrifice any conservative social issues (which they generally don’ support anyway) to get people elected/

What state do you live in ? Get back to me and I'll see if I can get you any additional details about running for local committee which might help you.

I personally would like to see a total of 4-5 major parties. It would be harder to buy votes.

BRING BACK RICK SANTORUM.

Santorum supported Specter over Toomey last time. That is why he lost.

I hope to convince as many participants as possible to get involved in the Republican party and remodel it to serve conservative interests.

And there, IMHO, is the inherent flaw. The momentum and the numebers and names from the tea parties SHOULD be used to finally kill off the GOP and build something new.

I thought it had to do with liberals putting him in their scope for his comments (slippery slope) after the USSC edict that homosexuality is the new normality.

This kind of stuff happened here in Iowa. The GOP did not and would not back the popular guy wanting in and gave to the buffoons instead. That has happened here about 3 election cycles worth.

We quit giving to the RNC then. If the GOP continues this nonsense of backing Spector I pray not a dime goes to them. Let them see how many people they can get seated. This IS the time for change. Change in the GOP. I’m tired of dinosaurs dictating who will be left for us to vote for. Enough already!

So, the time has come for the GOP to be purged or go the way of the Whigs.

That's pretty much what I was getting at, and have been getting at for months now.

Look, let's face it - the GOP has problems. It's infested with RINOs who are completely unrepresentative of the vast majority of rank and file registered Republicans, who are conservatives. Much of the GOP "leadership" rightly deserves those scare quotes.

So what is the solution to this problem? Is it splitting up conservatives into a gadzillion different worthless little third-parties, most of which exist as little more than ego-trips for their founders?

No. Going third party in a political climate like we have right now (and I mean structurally, not partisanship) is, unequivocably, absolutely, all in completely all about the stupidest thing conservatives could possibly do.

The solution is to retake the party, county by county, state by state. It can be done. We've already done in my county - we replaced a moribund, country-clubbish Rockefeller-type apparatus with an energetic, roundly conservative set of precinct and executive leadership. We're one of the most liberal counties in America, outside of the hard-core inner cities - so if we can do it (and see the level of enthusiasm from registered party members in the county that we are), then why can't it be done in solid red counties all across the country?

Problem is, this requires effort on the part of people. It requires time and energy and money. These are things that the vast majority of the nose-picking third-party whiners on here are unwilling to invest. Remember, it's much easier to sit back and complain about past wrongs and throw stones at people and support a third party where you won't actually have to do anything, than it is to get involved and do actual legwork and whatnot.

We can sit here and whine about the GOP leadership and the RINOs, but sooner or later, conservatives are going to have to face the cold, hard fact that the reason the GOP has problems is because too many CONSERVATIVES were too lazy to step up and do what needed to be done when we had power. Look, the current problem isn't just Arlen Specter and John McCain's fault. It's the fault of a lot of rank-and-file conservatives who didn't do their jobs.

This is a GOP MISTAKE.

I’ve told Michael Steele that the GOP MUST have a traditionally conservative Constitution Defending agenda. Anything else is just “Democrat Lite.”

What is gained by going third party that would not be gained by retaking the GOP?

No purges needed, no corrupt officials. The GOP is a lost cause. Building something new would be much easier and cleaner than retaking the rustbucket that is the GOP.

Much of what you say has merit, however, your crude dismissal of those who choose to go third party is unfair and not productive.

It is a illegimate assumption on your part that those who do so have not been active and loyal Party members.

The reality is that this Party has lost its central guiding principle-individual freedom.

To regain it would take a purge of 90% of the GOP leaders, from Steele to Specter.
