Parents who have their children in private school should seriously question whether they love their children. Same reasons.

And what do you suppose we do? I pay tuition to a Catholic School and you are saying that is not good enough to love me kids? I must not understand your post.

What do you want to bet that this kid didn't’t have a father figure in the home?

I'll bet -01 penny.

The agenda is that Fathers are not needed, or welcome to raise children.
And Boys are raised wishing they had BOOBS.

Or, raised by a Father that's PW.

Everyone clap your hands for man-boobs.

Does not matter.

But I would bet that, as has been the case through out history, the bully's parents were nasty little bits of work who should be flogged.

The problem is, it seems to me, that kids are NOT left to resolve there own conflicts.

No, the problem is the same as it has always been, adults that are weak and unwilling to control barbarian children.

What a crock. School is for learning. It isn't boxing camp or boot camp.
There is no excuse for an 11 year old to get the crap beat out of him to teach
him the ways of the world.

What School did you go to? Saint No-Nicks?

Oh wait, you're a "Libertarian". Nevermind.
Since were being judgmental.

Btw, I had my first fight at 4-years old.
And you're feeling bad for an "11" year old
being picked on.

Children should be left to fight it out on their own, then,
the mothers job is to clean up the bloody face. And if the boy won,
the father gives the boy a raise in allowance. But, if the boy looses,
the Father should kick his ass again!

Amen - my nephew did this exact thing at 18 and it still feels like a gut punch every time I think about it. The worst part is it doesn’t hurt the bullies, it devastates the family who loved the kid but didn’t see the weight of his pain. My nephew’s family will never be the same, and if he could have seen that I’m sure he wouldn’t have taken his life.
I tell his story whenever I can to help folks see there IS a way to cope - rather than ending it all.
Lord, show this family (and all of us) your grace this day. Help us all to see it and hang onto your strength & love.
HAPPY EASTER

Ours attended a Quaker school for their entire PK thru high school. They are happy adults at this time!

I have a pair of 10 yr old twins, both quite popular. I just had a talk with them about how to treat all the kids around them and especially the less “accepted” ones. This story is heartbreaking.

They did. After your post.

Most people assume that sending children to school to be indoctrinated by government is “normal” and “responsible,” simply because for about a century, the government has succeeded in putting this hoax over.

The government depends on such think-inside-the-box people.

I was homeschooled so bullying was a very unusual, deeply disturbing experience. I can’t imagine waking up every morning and expecting it.
I can’t imagine sending my kids to school, knowing full well they might be attacked, molested, or robbed by another kid. I can’t imagine allowing them to continue dealing with the situation until, as you said, they go berserk and try to kill their tormenter.
I’ve met a lot of people who agree with you, but I just don’t get it. :-)

Most of the replies here are focused on the victim of bullying, or the victims parents. I ask that parents look closely at their own child’s behavior. Are you perhaps raising a bully?

Bullys exist and they have parents too.

Why did you bully this kid? I’ve been really curious reading these stories as to why kids bully other kids. Are their own lives so empty and boring they have to do this to validate themselves? Are they just evil and want to hurt someone? Is someone else bullying THEM? Do they think this is normal behavior? It’s strange to me.

Dear Arthur McGowan,

Happy Easter to you, too!

LOL.

Although I'm sure that there are parents who really don't love their children very much, I suspect that in many cases, the intent and effort of love exist, even if the outcome may leave something to be desired. To love another is to intend the best for the other, and to do one’s best to help bring about the best for the other.

One may do what one believes one can do for another, and yet be in error about what is the best for the other.

The fact is, many parents actually sacrifice much to have their children attend specific public schools. It isn't out of convenience that they do this. It may actually be costly to them to do this. In my own state, there are several counties with public school systems that are considered quite good. They are also the counties with the highest housing costs, in a state with high housing costs, anyway. I know parents who have sacrificed to move to neighborhoods where the public schools are of high repute. Often, folks will buy a smaller but more expensive house because the school district serving the neighborhood is considered to be superior. They are willing to pay more for less because they believe that they are obtaining the best education for their children.

These folks often are driving longer commutes, paying larger mortgages for smaller houses because they believe that they're doing the best for their children.

Most of these folks love their children, as best as they know how to do it.

Even if they're in error about the best way to do it.

“Parents who have their children in private school should seriously question whether they love their children. Same reasons.”

Although there are certainly some cases of parents who shunt their children off to toney private schools in order to be done with them, the folks I know who send their kids to private schools do NOT find it convenient, nor money saving, nor any other attribute that one might chalk up to selfish or otherwise unworthy motives. Most of the folks I know who send their children to private schools make significant financial sacrifices, often make significant personal sacrifices to obtain the logistics of their decisions, and otherwise would find life much easier if they'd have made a different decision.

Again, their choice may or may not actually serve their children best. Nonetheless, there intentions AND their actions are ordered to trying to do the best for their children.

Most of these people, too, love their children. As best as they can.

I’m with you. My son is homeschooled by my wife and I. My son is also 7 years old/80 pounds of rippling muscle. He boxes and he wrestles, and desperately wants to play hockey. Bullies lay down just so that he may pass.

While my wife was visiting family, without me unfortunately, there was an attempted bullying incident in the ‘ball pit’ at Chuck-e-Cheeses. He was six at the time and was playing in there with his little cousin, who is about 3-4. A ‘big kid’ about 9 or 10 got in there and was bullying his cousin by throwing balls at his face. My son close lined the bully. My wife said he left his feet. She had noticed the activity and was headed over to supervise. Once she saw what was going on, she just watched, like a good mom should when boys are learning to be men. Then my son wouldn’t let the bully get back up, and instead started throwing balls in his face. The bully learned a lesson that day...fat and age means nothing compared to muscle and will. My son could have broken his nose and jaw and choked him till he was dead...but he has learned proper use of force, and instead humiliated him, and only ‘struck’ him once. Every time I bring it up(and I do, often), he gets a look on his face like he just charged a pillbox/bombed Tokyo. A cat eating a canary comes to mind.

If he had been around this poor kid, there is no doubt in my mind my son would have ended the bullying post haste. Someone should have taught this child to defend himself, even if it were just a verbal defense. Every man owes it to his son to teach him not to fear violence, and the purpose it serves in a civilized society. Of course, most dads these days are nowhere to be found.

Well, I doubt that. They will be told that their actions were due to their parents or whatever eases their minds. They wont care because they believe it wasnt their fault, but rather the poor soul who killed himself.
Some people have no empathy.

THis started long before Obama.

Of course it did. The Obama nightmare didn't just happen overnight. Decades of decay brought us to this point in history. At the ballot box, America did like Thelma and Louise. Or maybe most just desperately HOPED for CHANGE no matter how they could get it, like this poor 11 year old.
