Somali pirates holding an American ship captain hostage have reportedly made a £1.6m ransom offer - as another hostage in the same region is killed.
American Captain Richard Phillips tried to escape by jumping into the sea in sight of a US warship, but he was quickly recaptured, officals have said.
Capt Phillips is not thought to have been hurt in the incident, even though shots from an automatic weapon were fired in the drama.
Meanwhile, the French military has managed to free a child and three others from a yacht taken hostage in the notorious Gulf of Aden last week. But a fifth hostage has been killed in the operation.

Why are you guys showing THAT picture. That isn’t the one the Pilot is on. He’s on a covered boat. Showing that picture will confuse many as to what is going on.
Please see post 57
Sorry, post 60
Picture released by the German Bundeswehr on March 4, 2009 shows a pirates boat before it was approached by Bundeswehr soldiers in the Gulf of Aden off Somalia on March 3, 2009, after the German frigate Rheinland-Pfalz had received a distress call from a German-owned container ship saying she was under fire from pirates armed with bazookas and machine guns. The frigate then dispatched a helicopter which together with another chopper from the US naval ship Monterey stopped the attempted attack by firing warning shots. German soldiers boarded the pirates vessel and took the nine into custody, the German military said. The container ship in question was the MV Courier, sailing under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda. I’m talking about the picture in Posts #28 & #57. The Captain/Pilot is in the boat pictured in Post #60.
TR would have handled this already...
What about sidling up to them and releasing pressurized salt acid into their faces.
I was working at Fort Knox a few years back when 6 of those landed. The sun was bright and cast a weird glow off the pilots face masks. As they looked down at us the gun mounted in the nose followed their head movement....very unsettling to say the least.
Not my preference.
I suppose it leave them alive to repent.
However, doubtful they’d be in much of a repenting mood afterwards.
I’d rather send them to their eternal abode before they rack up more punishment for themselves.
After all, it's not as if they have equipment onboard the lifeboat to test the veracity of bills provided to them. And, if the bills are marked...who knows, perhaps the CIA could aide in international tracking of perps.
But, what the heck....I'm no expert in such matters.
Murderous Islamofascist pirate (Democrat,Somalia):
"Send our thanks to ACORN for the voting cards."
You speak the truth, Quix!
That looks like it could be tougher to sink and hard to snipe at.
Thank you for that clarification.
Goodness!
This is still taking some getting used to . . . .
folks realizing that . . .
was a lot easier being . . . seen as the . . . ignorant kook looney tunes.
LOL.
Depends on how seriously we want into it.
Supposedly we have technologies to turn cement walls into . . . doorways just by aiming a . . . technology at them.
Think Stargate SG1.
I’d wager we could silently attach some things to the bottom that would corrode some good sized holes into the thing relatively quickly.
I’ve agreed with you more often than not.
True.
You’ve been a dear heart for a long time, in my book.
God’s best to you and all those you love.
Actually, I think you know,
I’d MUCH rather be wrong about all this.
Though . . . there is the
!!!!MARANATHA!!!!
Factor . . . which can easily trump all the others.
And . . . the GOD KNOWS WHAT HE’S DOING factor, which definitely trumps all others.
Exactly. Now imagine the safety is off, the weapon is hot and the finger is over the button ready to fire. Oh, and his cockpit is proof against .50 BMG
Sight aimed weapons would scare the crap out of me, if all I had was Rashid's rusty AK-47. Mohammed's RPG gunner is also dead meat the second that triangle shaped warhead pops up.
