Somali pirates holding an American ship captain hostage have reportedly made a £1.6m ransom offer - as another hostage in the same region is killed.
American Captain Richard Phillips tried to escape by jumping into the sea in sight of a US warship, but he was quickly recaptured, officals have said.
Capt Phillips is not thought to have been hurt in the incident, even though shots from an automatic weapon were fired in the drama.
Meanwhile, the French military has managed to free a child and three others from a yacht taken hostage in the notorious Gulf of Aden last week. But a fifth hostage has been killed in the operation.

I’m just a stupid citizen, but it’s beyond me why the government doesn’t dump a load of counterfeit or marked bills on these pirates.

I don’t know why the U.S. Navy doesn’t send a squad of Navy Seals under cover of darkness to overcome these four thugs and rescue the Captain. I’m sure they are more than capable.
They are African muslims like someone else. The Saudis are the puppetmasters in the background.
And then what? They take the marked bills back to their third world sewer and live high on the hog. The Navy should keep a ship between them and the shore and make it clear that the pirates aren't going anywhere unless the captain is released. If the captian goes free, then they go free. If the captain dies, then they die. No ransom. No bargains. Live or die, that's the only choice. Forget talk about 'bringing them to justice' because there isn't any justice in Somalia and international law about trying them is so vague as to be worthless. Make it simple enough for their 9 volt brains to comprehend. Give up the capain, and live. Kill the captain, and die. No more, no less.

From what I understand they did this...but the captors believe as soon as they release the captain they will be killed.
For some reason they think if they have money on their lifeboat that the US wouldn’t blow them up anyway.
The SEALS need to deal with this...but IOTUS won’t ever let it happen.
seems to be the smart move......but then again...think of jimmah and his rescue attempt in the desert....sadly, obams can blow it huge with this one.
