He told Jay Leno the puppy he promised his daughters would be in place when he got back from a NATO summit in Europe. But Barack Obama has been back at the White House since Wednesday.
So Mr. President ... where's the patter of little puppy paws?
What we know so far, based on what Obama and his wife, Michelle, have said, is that the choice is down to either a Portuguese Water Dog or a Labradoodle. Michelle Obama also has said the dog is coming this month.
Monday is the White House Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn, and 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha have no school that day.
Mrs. Obama said Thursday that the dog will arrive "soon ... so soon."
The president cracked jokes about the promised puppy when Leno sought details of its whereabouts.
"This is Washington. That was a campaign promise," Obama said when he appeared on Leno's talk show last month, as the audience roared with laughter. "No, I'm teasing. The dog will be there shortly."

Muslims do not have pets living in the house, and do not touch dogs. Dogs are unclean.
Eventually they will HAVE to get a dog, even if the dog stays Nowhere near Obama...they WILL get a dog....it's a Poirtugese Spaniel.
They HAVE to go to Church on Easter. They SHOULD be going on Good Friday, today, also, but I doubt it.
I was going to suggest a little potbelly pig, but they don’t like pigs either.
uh - don’t Muslims regard dogs as dirty? I believe I read somewhere that a Muslim cab driver in NY refused to allow a blind man with his seeing-eye dog into his cab because of the Koran’s teachings. By the way - can you think of a better way to “mock” Christianity by inviting gay families to the White House on Easter? Things that make you go hmmmmmmmm.
I’ve been saying it all along. He will never get a dog. And the kids don’t even want a dog. It was just another ploy to deny his islamic faith. This was all he needed since McCain wouldn’t allow anyone to use his middle name.
Before Obama’s term ends, the king of Saudi Arabia will invite him to Mecca, and he will go.
To anyone with a dabbler’s knowledge of Islam, it will be undeniable proof that he is a Muslim.
The media, however, will instead say that Obama is the first Christian invited to this most holy city of Islam, and grovel and fawn appropriately.
No surprise, not much commentary on Obama basically taking a 'weekend vacation' every weekend since coronation...
Our morning paper reported that Dick Durbin indicated to the press that the dog had been introduced to the Obama household a few Sundays ago....another Obama lie....
That'll get em out of the Easter Egg Roll, next up, the Christmas Tree.
The poor dog will be tied with a rope in the back yard of the White House and have a plywood doghouse for it to live in.

White House aides suggested it is likely the president will attend an Easter service somewhere this Sunday without having made a final decision about where he, his wife, Michelle, and their daughters, Malia and Sasha, will worship.
Muslims don’t like dogs.
But - plenty of time to schedule to speak at Notre Dame, to bow to royalty.
All hat, no cattle? Heck, I don't believe he has a hat.
I'm sure he has access to a hat, a prop, borrowed as needed.
