A blind Muslim woman whose family objected to having a guide dog in the house is to get a guide horse instead.

Mona Ramouni, 28, lost her sight shortly after birth, and has had to rely on her family members to guide her around the Detroit suburb where they live.

She has long yearned for more independence, but a traditional guide dog was never an option.Many Muslims consider dogs unclean, and Miss Ramouni, an observant Sunni, respects her Jordanian-born parents' aversion to having a dog in the family home, where she lives along with three of her six siblings.

Now Mexicali Rose, a 3-year-old former show horse that stands about 2 1/2 feet tall and weighs about 125 pounds, has arrived to help Miss Ramouni.

.....While many Muslims believe dogs can violate ritual purity, horses are seen as "regal animals," Dawud Walid, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relation's Michigan chapter, told the news agency.

Still, "there would be concerns about bringing a horse into certain establishments and areas of worship as well," he said

Actually, horses CAN be house-trained if you do it early in foalhood. They’ll let you know when they need to go out.

Some of these animals are being trained to be guide dogs for people who are allergic to dogs. They get fitted with little rubbery booties so they can go up and down stairs or walk on wood floors without slipping. They can wear diapers so odor or cleanliness isn’t much of an issue.

God bless this unfortunate woman. Bad enough being born blind, but to be a woman in a Muslim culture is the pits.

If CAIR still isn’t happy ... How about a more traditional solution... knife the Dog, STone the Horse, and sell the woman for dogfood.

They're very tiny. This ain't your typical horse we're talking about that needs lots of room. They usually are about 19 inches tall!

Guess that Moslems don’t CAIR about their disabled children.

Our dogs are smarter than most primitive Moslems. They live peacefully with our cats (however, our female K-9 does have a lean and hungry look for one of the cats).

Hope the little horse craps all over their house.

PS: My son said that while in Iraq, he could smell a camel a mile away, and some Iraqis too. Nothing like western civilization to make a clean person a reality.
