One theory holds that greenhouse gases created first by agriculture, then by industrialization have kept the overdue ice age in abeyance. In a sense, it's a variation of the global warming theme except that global warming is what's keeping us from doom and gloom.
So, in effect, global warming has made possible the growth of civilization.
How ironic is that?!!

Very.
Warm-mongers cluck that global warming will doom us all.
Rational skeptics (e.g. myself, and most other Freepers)question the premise of AGW.
The possibility that there is a greenhouse gas effect — and that it's a very good thing — is seldom discussed.
It may be difficult for people living in hot southern climes to believe — but, a warmer planet would be a lot better than a colder planet, for most of us.

So, in effect, global warming has made possible the growth of civilization. In the past major blooms of civilization, such as the Classical Greek era and the Roman era and the Renaissance, accompanied periods of global warming.

Of course... global warming also made possible the Renaissance. Global cooling brought the bubonic plague which wiped out half of Europe.
