I agree with you. I've stated my reasons at length in the past right here. Someone please inform me what it is these dogs can do that another more predictable breed can not. Why not own a Lab, or a German Shepherd. Whey would a person chose to own the breed of dog that is responsible for more child deaths and attacks than any other dog breed?
Would you own a firearm that was known to malfunction on a regular basis, or a car that was known to instantly turn right at unknown and unpredictable intervals? There is not reason to own these dogs. There is no reason for the rest of us to put up with neighbors who choose to keep these time bombs. This breed of dog has been bred to bite and fight. It is an on-board instinct that they are born with. It will always be present in these dogs. No owner or trainer is capable of taking an instinct out of any dog. There is no legal dog fighting in this country so there is no reason for Pit Bulls to be allowed in this country. If a Pit Bull attacks in an unwarranted manner, the owner should be treated as if they themselves had perpetrated the attack with premeditation. If you choose to own and maintain a Pit Bull and it attacks and kills a child it is not an accident. You, the owner, made a choice to maintain an unpredictable weapon and then failed to prevent the attack. You made the choice so you should be guilty of premeditated homicide or at the very least reckless negligent homicide. After one of these dogs kills or maims a child you always hear about the dog owner saying that they didn't know their Pit could harm anyone and how gentile and loving their dog is. All of this does not bring that kid back to health or life. These dog owners have been told time after time exactly what their dogs have been bred to do. The dogs actions have been predicted. The dog owners have refused to listen in fact they will almost always argue with the facts and national statistics, but they have been told, informed. From that point forward they must be held criminally responsible for their dogs actions. The charge should be homicide.

Your Post was very good. People keep taking up for these animals and then you read yet another article of someone being mauled by them.

Freedom is fine, but I cant own a machine gun, why should I own a pit bull. I dont remember reading of another breed constantly that mauls kids and other animals.Certainly any group of dogs in a pack can be dangerous , but time and time again we read of pitbulls attacking.

Some say it is the way the animal is treated or trained, perhaps that has some credence, but time and time again the story reads , the dog was never aggressive before it ate the kid.

What business is it of yours what kind of dog someone owns? Do you agree with "selective" gun bans as well? Maybe we should ban all "assault rifles." In one day assault rifles killed more people than Pit Bulls killed in a year.

We live in a free society. One of the prices we pay for that privilege is the risk that at any time we might be killed by some nut...or in this case some nut's dog.

We have ways to punish those who break the law but those punishments never raise the dead. The murdered remain murdered. Again it is the price we pay for freedom.

It is not your's nor the government's business what breed of dog someone owns unless that dog injures someone. Then the law should step in and inflict punishment on the law breaker as it has in this case.

You want to live in a controlled society, go live in England or France...see how you like living in slavery to the state.

Aggressive animals, aggressive owners. A lab or a German Shepherd doesn’t register high enough on the “ego meter”. No one in the “Hood” is gonna give proper respect to a “homie” who owns a Golden Lab. That’s “white boy stuff” and it invites ridicule. Pits bring respect.

And not to leave this out, but all animals have the potential for maiming/killing. Even the cute and adorable Labs.

Case in point: my grandfather had an absolutely sweet German Shephard. Come feeding time, I had to move the food dish over a bit and put my hand too close and got nipped. No scars, no stitches, just a reminder not to get in the way of chow time.

Puts things in perspective when you realize nature can take over, no matter how well-trained an animal is.
