If he in fact received a “dishonorable discharge” then I believe federal law prohibits him from owning a firearm. It’s one of the questions you answer when completing the ATF form 4473 to purchase a firearm from a gun dealer.

There are various grades of less than honorable discharges,such as general, other than honorable, etc., so I wonder if the media has it exactly correct when saying he had a “dishonorable discharge.”

You’re right Jack. A dishonorable discharge is still pretty serious and the military treats them that way. If the media is right and he actually received a dishonorable discharge, he had to have done something pretty serious to get it.
