Pro-Abortion Journalist Chris Matthews To Speak At St. Joseph's
School Chooses Chris Matthews To Give Commencement Address By Chris Freind, The Bulletin Friday, April 03, 2009 Ignoring the controversy surrounding Notre Dame’s honoring of pro-abortion Barack Obama as its commencement speaker, Saint Joseph’s University has followed suit. It will grant an honorary degree to broadcast journalist Chris Matthews at the university’s 2009 commencement ceremonies.
Despite Mr. Matthew’s Catholic education, having graduated from the College of the Holy Cross, he is widely regarded as a strong supporter of abortion rights, and was unabashed in his admiration of Mr. Obama’s positions.
Support for abortion is antithetical to the Church’s teachings.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops opposes the practice of hosting speakers who are outspoken against Catholic doctrine.
“The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles,” said the bishop’s conference in a statement. “They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.”
Calls to Saint Joseph’s President Fr. Timothy Lannon went unreturned.

This kind of repeated BS by 2 leading Catholic Universities needs to be dealt with in a broad fashion that gets some real notice. STOP THE DONATIONS!! Notre Dame AND St. Joseph’s will back off when the money stops.

Probably not, but you can be sure he will be spewing all manner of left wing nonsense and idealogy that is an insult to the Catholic faith. Most likely he’ll get a standing ovation. One of the many reasons I left the Cathoilic Church after 35 years and 16 years of Catholic schooling. I didn’t find Christ there.
I don’t give a rat’s rear end if he is there to speak about abortion. Catholic institutions, or any other religious instituion, should not be honoring pro abortionist like Chris Matthew period.

Why leave the Church due the all-to-human shortcomings of her leaders? Didn’t Our Lord predict as such? Christ was there all the time, but you’ll set yourself up for constant disappointment if you depend on the hierarchy for that presence.

I can think of a hundred reasons why CM should not be a commencement speaker. Number one reason....he’s a BOOB! How any college let a skull full of mush like his walk away with a degree is beyond me.
I left because of the institution’s short comings. I never put my hopes and dreams in flawed human beings. Now I belong to a very simple, Bible reading, Bible following church in West Philly (filled with flawed men and women), and my life is changed.
You obviously were looking for something besides Christ and by leaving only ended up committing spiritual suicide. That's a shame.
