Global LNG glut set to reverse

An emerging glut in global liquefied natural gas supply caused by plant startups and a drop in energy demand is set to reverse by 2014 or 2015, taking the market back into a shortage, an industry consultant said.

The market may then be short of supply through to 2020, pointing potentially to a "bright future" for the lineup of proposed LNG projects in Australia's Queensland state, Daryl Houghton, the manager for Asia-Pacific at New York-based Poten & Partners, said Friday. About 180 million tonnes a year of new LNG supply is required by 2020, he said.
