Why would the church have and “take” on the Mariott Corp? It was not founded by the church nor is it owned by the church. Timmothy McVeigh was a Nazarene, so what?No, the point isn't simply that Bill Marriott is a Mormon. If you think that's all that's tied in here, you're off-base. The point is that Bill Marriott is currently serving as an Area Seventy and is a member of the LDS Church's Sixth Quorum of the Seventy.
Those are church LEADERSHIP positions. And LDS are known for keeping a tight control on certain moral concerns re: its leadership.
So why are they looking the other way here?
How do you know they are looking the other way? Have you personally called the church and asked them for a statement or a reason for this? It is a publicly held corporation now and not “owned” by the Mariotts. Anyone who invests in the stock market is automatically tied in with all kinds of improprieties. Again, stretching a bit to convict the Mormon Church.
