Thanks for the encouragement.

The "annointing" of oil in the temple is for none of the reasons you mention. It is done to girls as well as men. It is applied while you stand disrobed, on places normally covered with underwear.

Although it is watered down now, I think it was nothing more than a con by Joseph Smith in the beginning to see and touch young women on their wedding day. Reminds me of the "Prima Noctu" in the movie Braveheart....

I appreciate your having confirmed what I had found through my own investigation(s).

I dated a girl back about eight or nine years ago who was a “jill” mormon. I’ll call her “Liz” - not even remotely her name

“Liz” did not go to Sunday services, other than Christmas and Easter, but did wear her temple garments whenever she wanted to...or not...including many times when they would be thrown aside, so that we as a dating couple, could “give in to the moment”.

She never went in to the Bishop or Elders and confessed, so consequently, she was never excommunicated, and never turned in those garments - not to my knowledge, anyway.

She was attached to her mormon faith - but not too attached.

“Liz” had gone through all of the various “secret/sacred” ceremonies that an LDS woman is eligible for, except a celestial marriage sealing, but she knew about every detail of what was involved in those, having wormed the specifics out of a girlfriend of hers who was so married and sealed in late ‘99 or early 2000!

And so, she willingly shared all she knew with me - I think other than the excessive restrictions on personal behaviour (no coffee or tea, no caffeinated cold beverages, no alcohol, etc...), she also found room to disagree with the overboard sense of secrecy, and basically disregarded those teachings.

LOL! Where would we be if it were not for women, their desire to gossip, and their inability to keep secrets?!

A.A.C.

This 1965 movie has that Prima Noctu theme. Very good movie!
