Because we believe that Christ is our Savior and the Creator of this world. You can quibble about doctrine all you want, but I believe that, and I am therefore a Christian.
And I’m not going to get into any of your little “gotcha” games, and definitions of “Christian” concocted to exclude everyone who doesn’t agree with you on every point. Consider that the end of the discussion.
Yes Mistress
You say that you (Mormons) and yourself, consider Jesus Christ your savior. Now, which "Jesus" are we talking about? the one revealed to us from God in the accepted text of the Christian bible that all Christians believe in or some other one? Because it really does matter.
Lady, I KNOW "discussion" and THAT ain't discussion! ROTFL! Oh well, beats Fred's style.
That's actually your best tactic, because you lose every argument you get into details with.
I think what you meant to say is I'm going to sit back and snipe at will and expect you to leave me and my false religion alone.
Brigham Young taught there was no Virgin Birth. Joseph Smith taught that Many Gods' created the earth. Orson Hyde taught that Christ was a polygamist and a sinner.
Christ taught "But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." (Matthew 12:36-37)
You will not be afforded the luxury of being FOR the church and AGAINST it....Like John Kerry and the war. Not here.
Matthew 16:13
When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am ? 16:14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist : some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
16:15
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am ?
16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven
1 John 4
4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
I had it explained to me by a fellow graduate student, who was LDS, that I couldn't be a "real" Christian because I had not accepted the "Restored" Gospel. That is a game that two sides play.
