I'm not so much concerned with speaking the "truth" as to the manner in which it's done. The adherents of every faith believe that theirs possesses the "truth". The essential points which need to be made in most any argument can be made in a handful of posts at most. At that point, your protagonist has either accepted what you've put forward or he's rejected it. Beyond that point it becomes an exercise in repetition and mere points scoring.
Sometimes, all you can do is plant the seed. Once you've launched "the crusade" it becomes an obsession and that shows very clearly to lurkers. Knowing when to back off is one of the requirements of religious debate. Care needs to be exercised when pointing out "the truth". Otherwise, jihad is the result. A holy war. That's what the religion forum resembles on many occasions.
All in the name of "truth".
You didn’t read my post closely.
We don’t post to Mormons, but we post to those who are investigating Mormonism. They lurk and read and we’re making a difference.
That is why we’re being targeted.
And yes I am obsessed. Mormonism absolutely poisoned me to Christianity. I lived over twenty years without Christ because Mormonism convinced me it was either them or the whole idea of God was a sham. Little did I know that not all Christians believe God was once a man or that Jesus Christ is the brother of Satan.
These are the truths about the doctrine of Mormonism that I will tell until my last breath. Call me obsessed - because truly it is a Great Obsession!!
So, let's see. The apostle makes it a custom to go into synagogues -- and as a result the Jews would be riled up (Acts 17:1-2). Then he'd go into the synagogue and marketplace daily in Acts 17:17. Then every Sabbath he reasoned in the synagogue (Acts 18:4). As soon as he arrived in Ephesus, he headed into the synagogue and reasoned with Jews (Acts 18:19). Then Apollos did the same thing (Acts 18:26-28). Then Paul spoke for THREE MONTHS in the synagogue (Acts 19:8) and had DAILY discussions in the lecture hall (Acts 19:9-10).
(I suppose your sage advice applies retro-actively to the apostle Paul & Apollos? Paul was this potential raging, seething Jihadist?)
