depends on what you mean by ‘verge’.
With Obama at the helm, it’s possible the U.S. will fall before Mexico does.
It’s been in danger of collapse or mob rule for years.
Corrupt politicians. Drug/Crime cartels. Bandits rule the country-side. Military rules self.
Nationalization has sapped the resources and squandered them
Collapse is inevitable. Whether this year or next.
No mention of how far North the drug cartels tentacles reach.. Try Canada.
darn I am from Texas and I think there are several parts of northern Mexico almost controlled by Narcos now
The government is corrupt and in bed with the narco traffickers. There is nothing to collapse.
If you have to deny it, it is probably true.
There are no drug cartels in Mexico, none!
Fixed it. ;)
Rule of thumb: if you have to SAY it isn't, then it probably IS. Just sayin'.
“Don’t believe a rumor until it is officially denied.”
What if a whole country collapsed and nobody could tell the difference?
What’s the over/under on this?
“Mexico is in no danger of becoming a failed state”.....
That’s not the point, Bozo!....Mexico could simply back away from the border area and give up leaving all of it to the drug gangs. Then the U.S. would have to deal with it....Are these politicians really this stupid?
If the Mexican government said this, I would get out of the country by the next day...
Translation: “Mexico is on the verge of collapse.”
We all like to joke about Mexico, but in reality Mexico is a fairly important country. (It has the 11th largest economy in the world, believe it or not.) The narcotraficanto troubles in the north of Mexico, while serious, are more regional in nature than national, affecting only 7 or 8 of Mexico’s states (it has 31). Corruption is endemic across Mexico, of course, but the local citizens, cops, and gangsters in most places have established a modus vivendi that keeps everyday life more or less normal.
One approach to fixing Mexico’s drug and economic problems (along with our border problem) would be for the Mexican federal government to cede the northernmost seven states to us. Once under US law, these states could be cleaned of large-scale narcoterrorists and corrupt officials and given extensive tax breaks along with infrastructure support. All this done well could see these “top seven” states achieving U.S. style order and prosperity levels within a decade or so, giving Uncle Sam plenty of new taxpayers, a demographic bonanza, and vast new resources, including minerals, agricultural land, and several excellent ports.
Funny (although not in a Ha Ha way) I was just posting a thread about the importance of thinking outside of comforting conventional wisdom.
>>On the other hand, should the Allies abandon such snug security and launch an attack of their own, just as much power and strength and cunning, multiplied many times over, would avail them nothing. The German Siegfried linenot 10 miles away is just, as redoubtable, just as impossible to penetrate, as the French fortifications.<<
