God doesn’t punish children for the sins of their parents (see Ezek. chap. 18)
And when his disciples asked Jesus why a tower fell on some people—was it because of their sins or their parents’ sins—he said, neither.
IOW, there is not always a direct cause-effect relationship.
It’s a tragedy for the family, and they have my sympathy.
It’s also ironic.
