Top GOP senator losing confidence in Geithner (Sen. Richard Shelby)

WASHINGTON (AP) - Shaky ground. That's what Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner (GYT'-nur) is on these days with Congress and many in the country, according to the Senate Banking Committee's top Republican.

Sen. Richard Shelby doesn't think Geithner will last long unless he starts doing a better job.

Shelby says he has less confidence in Geithner each day—over the AIG bonus mess, solving the nation's financial troubles and helping turn around the economy.

Shelby said Sunday on "Fox News Sunday" that Geithner will have to do a "180-degree turnaround" to be a successful treasury secretary.

But President Barack Obama has faith in Geithner. The president tells CBS' "60 Minutes" that if Geithner offered to resign, the answer would be, "Sorry buddy, you've still got the job."

I really love Sen. Shelby. He is doing exactly what needs to be done as a Republican in the minority. He never gave into the Bush bailout nor the Obama spending plan. Why is it some of the best Republicans used to be Democrats?

Dear SRS, it’s also Congress that must cause reformation.

Why anyone had any faith in Geithner is beyond me. No, not because he couldn’t manage to file his taxes correctly (give a complicated tax situation to 150 ‘tax experts’ and you’ll get 150 different returns), but because when he was at the IMF he managed to make a bad Indonesian economy even worse.

This is why Republicans are such losers. The ball is a floater a 10 year old could knock out of the park. They whiff every time.

Did Shelby vote to confirm him?

His tax errors were enough to disqualify him.

Losing confidence now is fine. How to get rid of him? Impeachment? Dem controlled Congress would never do that.

Make Geithner answer Helen Thomas’ questions. That’ll be a good lesson for him. ;’)

Shelby knows Obama is not a natural born citizen and possibly not even a citizen. Shelby has connections to the NSA. Do you duty Shelby.

Shelby and Gregg are heartening in they are waking up and speaking up. Meanwhile a lot of Repubs in teh House voyted for Obama’s Brown Shirt Hitler Jungend Korps. Are they insane? Here is a tip GOP - vote against anything he is willing to sign or is proposing.

Yeah, we'd be even MORE sorry than you, dumba$$...

...we saw this coming when he couldn't even figure out how to pay his own taxes...

...add a bunch of zeroes (um, to the numbers, not the staff...just to clarify) is how DC plays the game...

meaning if you're as incompetent as Obama/Geithner have been thus far...

it's exponentially worse for all of us....

geithner’s main issue is his tax crap (why was he approved in the first place?) and his ‘I’m lying to you and not trying to hide it’ personality. The fact his boss does not do things intended to ‘fix’ the economy, and in fact actively discourages discretionary consumer spending by warning of horrid things to come if his bills aren’t passed doesn’t help.

That said -

NO ONE ‘fixes’ an economy the size of the US in 2 months. You cannot even begin to impact a number of factors at all in 2 months. The eventual impact of anything they have done won’t be evident for months to come, and only in considerable retrospect.

Heck, how much of the loot-the-treasury stimulus bill has been spent so far?

Re: Your tagline.

Thaddeus McCotter is the whiningest beggar crybaby I have ever witnessed on the House floor. His speech during the Auto Bailouts was pathetic.

He truly represents what America has become: The Land of the Freeloader.
