Nailed It!
This ping list is not author-specific for articles I'd like to share. Some for the perfect moral clarity, some for provocative thoughts; or simply interesting articles I'd hate to miss myself. (I don't have to agree with the author all 100% to feel the need to share an article.)
I will try not to abuse the ping list and not to annoy you too much, but on some days there is more of the good stuff that is worthy of attention.
You are welcome to browse the list of truly exceptional articles I pinged to lately. Updated on February 10, 2009. on my page.
You are welcome in or out, just freepmail me (and note which PING list you are talking about).
Besides this one, I keep 2 separate PING lists for my favorite authors Victor Davis Hanson and Orson Scott Card.
Promises, promises. Give the tax cuts/credits on the tax return of a specific company AFTER they create the jobs.
I love everything except #4. If you bought your home using an adjustable rate mortgage or you bought a home that you really couldn’t afford you don’t deserve assistance. I’m sorry but I don’t want to bail out homeowners anymore than I want to bail out companies that can’t survive.
The Fair Tax will also abolish the capital gains and death taxes.
I am all for it. I just don’t see the critters relinquish their power to let it through.
I know I heard this discussed during the campaign, but it never materialized. I’d like to be given access to our 401K’s w/out paying the penalty and receive a significant tax break for using the money to make a major purchase. (We haven’t lost value to this point in our plans because we moved to a stable fund before the down tick started. We could use a newer car, and we would be willing to buy one if we could tap those funds w/out penalties and a reduced tax rate.) I’d be more than willing to tap them and may do so even with the tax and penalities if I think the government is moving to nationalize them.
This looks like the Gingrich version of a “Contract with America” for the mid-term elections.
Amend the Constitution, getting rid of the authority to levy income taxes. Make the FairTax legislation effective upon repeal of the 16th amendment. Otherwise, they’ll start adding income taxes back in for the “rich,” until we’re at the same point we are at today.
You are underestimating the ability of our Federal Government. You don't think the Dept. of the Treasury would create an "Office of Revenue Collection and Control" to levy the new income taxes on "the rich"? Maybe you just have more faith than I do in the system.
But you leave the explicit authority to levy income taxes with the government if the FairTax is implimented. The entire purpose of this tax scheme is to alleviate the need for an income tax. However, as we all know, if you give the government authority to do something, they will do it. Which is why we’ll end up with BOTH an income tax and a federal sales tax. I’m not in favor of adding new taxes without removing the both authority to levy existing taxes.
This should just about be the last straw. It is time our Reps get ugly with the Marxists before things go out of control for them.
Newt’s got good ideas and does a nice job of packaging them. Too bad he’s gone soft trying to win-over leftists and coddle the media by bashing Rush and other principled conservative voices. He probably resents Ronald Reagan being the real hero of the conservative movement, a position Newt could never accomplish.
There is nobody equal to Newt now in pointing out the winning ideas - conservative ideas that have majority support in America regardless of party affiliation. His personal weaknesses are also well known. Yes, he is far from perfect. But not recognizing his strength and not using his strength in our advantage is STUPID. There is enough people here who have NDS (Newt Derangement Syndrome) and treat him as enemy instead of utilizing his ideas. I don’t have to agree with somebody 100% (and I don’t) to recognize his value.
Newt would be much better than Steele as a head of RNC. Or a leading *doer* like Palin or Jindal should use him as an *idea* man. I think Newt was smart enough to realize that he can’t be the #1 guy, and would serve well as another #1 guy’s/gal’s principal adviser.
