So what do you believe is the “actual problem”? If CBP is intercepting so much contraband, why are the prices dropping? ATF is very active in Mexico. They provide “tips” regarding smuggling operations. This information is paid for. The competing suppliers rat out a small percentage of each others’ operation. The corruption, bribes, and payoffs are rampant within the Mexican AND US agencies. To pretend otherwise is naive.
Please enlighten everyone as to the actual problem, and the solution that keeps liberty intact.

The actual problem is still people and contraband coming across the U.S. border illegally, and the potential for the widespread narco violence that has overtaken Mexico becoming a way of life in U.S. cities. My solution would be more and better border fence, armed with an alarm system, enough manpower stationed right there on the border (right now there are fewer than 20,000), at the ports of entry, along the fence line within sight of each other, at the places where the fence ends, some Apache helicopters, a one-hundredfold increase in the number of unmanned surveillance aircraft patrolling over the southern border and the arming of those flights, bigger and better weapons for those patrolling the border including rocket launchers, shoot on sight orders for those patrolling the border who encounter drug smugglers...I could go on. I have no doubt that ATF is providing valuable intelligence about narco activities. Nor do I doubt that there is corruption within the U.S. agencies, though not nearly to the extent it exists in Mexico. A real border crackdown would go a long way, and I don’t see it impinging on my liberty, or the liberty of any other law abiding person in the U.S. If we could defeat Hitler and the Japanese, surely we can defend our own border. The problem is a lack of will and a disinclination to implement a winning strategy. (And according to to DOJ, prices are dropping in some places for some drugs, rising in others.)
