I, for one, am tired of being held hostage by RINOs like Spectre, McCain, Collins, Snowe, et al. I would rather deal with a democrat, than be sold out by someone claiming the Republican cause and campaign dollars. I am not answering the phone from the pubbies until these folks are toast.

we need to not elect people like specter

Unfortunately, the national GOP doesn't elect people like Specter - the people of PA do. I'm not a big fan of Specter, but my guess is that Toomey will get crushed in the senatorial election even if he wins the primary. This is the state where Santorum lost by 18% during his re-election effort. Specter isn't great, but he's better than any given Democrat. Weirdly enough, in 2008, the only Democratic Senator (with Hillary factored in) with as conservative a voting record as Specter was Obama. If you factor out Obama camouflaging his views, I would say that Specter is far more conservative (p. 26) than any Democrat. That's not saying much, but in my book, 50% is better than nothing.

Specter states that he is NOT switching to the Dem party, because his voice is very important within the Republican party. (try not to barf)

Why is he even running again in 2010? He's battling cancer and he's in his late 70s. Seriously, there needs to be a mandatory retirement age in Congress.

And I'd rather have the Dems run roughshod than to have a turncoat who stabs you in the back. Specter has to go, if Toomy doesn't win the GOP primary, he needs to run 3rd party and deny Specter the seat as well.

My guess: Somebody owes Specter big time for the “single bullet theory.”

I am so sick of this type of reasoning. If Toomey wins the primary and we lose the seat, we lose the seat...at least it will set a precedent for wobbly Republicans in that they should begin to fear primary challenges. We’ll never get anywhere as a party with your reasoning.

Plus w/o a PA seat to worry about losing, we can devote money to seats in ND (2), SD (1), MT (2), LA (1), NE (1), MO (1), and NV (1) that we should control.

You make this up as you go? According to the ACU,for the last year registered, Spector's rating was a 40 and Obama was 7. Hitlery was at 0. Ben Nelson (Dem) from Nebraska was at 64

The difference between Spector at 40 and the typical Dem Senator at 20 is trivial, especially on the important votes, and worth the shot that Toomey will give us in 2010 when we will likely be sitting on 12 % inflation and 12 % unemployment. Obama is a DISASTER, and he will get his crap through thanks to Specter. He can rot in Scottish Hell for all I care.

I have long wondered how Bush / Cheney / Rove determined to support Spector. He was on the ropes in the primary and, IIRC, won with a very slim margin. If the national party had given Toomey support, Spector would have been retired. I cannot recall the issue now, but I remember that it was only a few months later that Spector stabbed them in the back as the thanks and sided with the Dems on some fairly important issue. Twenty years ago he seemed to be a different person. Now he is just an embarassment for the Republican Party.
