WASHINGTON, March 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The leader of the nation's largest veterans organization says he is "deeply disappointed and concerned" after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases.
"It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan," said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. "He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it."
The Commander, clearly angered as he emerged from the session said, "This reimbursement plan would be inconsistent with the mandate ' to care for him who shall have borne the battle' given that the United States government sent members of the armed forces into harm's way, and not private insurance companies. I say again that The American Legion does not and will not support any plan that seeks to bill a veteran for treatment of a service connected disability at the very agency that was created to treat the unique need of America's veterans!"

Toss out the sorrow but keep your anger and keep it focused on this communist b*****d! I have a son still serving Army Infantry (10 yrs), over 2 1/2 yrs actual combat (Iraq) don’t think I won’t try for a piece of my “representative” and he’s good but he’s going to hear my fury.
Former Navy
FUBO!
Obama will support HIS troops, once he forms his homeland defense force.
DITTO!!I only wish this was an impeachable offense, well in my mind it is but with the worthless Congress we have now I know it won't happen.
Instead, the Zero is pissing everyone off as fast as the can.
Americans need to tell this President....NO WAY. These military injured heros were defending, are defending, the American people and the government needs to take care of them. This guy has no understanding of the military and their commitments to the security of the US.
And instead of talking about this Republican party leaders are attacking Rush Limbaugh!
A few years ago..the very thought of this country breaking apart into two different ones would have drawn a smirk from me...but now...I almost expect it.
The Kenyan Clown plans to destroy our military.
Don't forget that Napoleon was a soldier who was wounded in action multiple times.
He is looking to save $540 mil and ACORN is receiving billions? Did I not read that somewhere? I would fix all this in short order. I would shut down all the VA hospitals and make sure our wounded veterans had the best insurance and access to the best healthcare. I do not like the idea that some veterans have to travel long distances to be treated.
We could open the bidding up to private insurers in each state and call it the “Heroes Policy”. Enough pork could be cut to easily pay for this. I think this just highlights what we all already knew of this mans character; he has none.
As an American,a Veteran, a Christian, I am truly ashamed that there were enough weak, spineless, whiney Americans, to have voted this absolute LOSER into the Presidency.
2. Jeez, this betrays the mission of pretend piety that the snob's wife is supposedly on about assisting military families.
FWIW veteran members of my family have always done well and been satisfied at VA hospitals. All things considered maybe we have other areas to look at for cost savings.
That's precisely the game he's playing. He's a Marxist community "organizer."
I hate to personalize it, but, politely, the guy is a jerk. Just how he'll void insurers policies on a national basis remains to be seen. He can ask for reimbursement, but if the conditions are preexisting and/or the result of military service, I don't know how he'll get it.
Get on the phone, write a letter, or write a email to both senators and your representative and voice your opposition to this idea NOW.
I wrote letters and put them in the mail and I just got off the phone with all three offices.. without telling them I sent the letters and talked to the Representative on each end.
Enough dissent to this idea goes through.. the more they will think TWICE about wanting it on the table.
I can’t even imagine hippy vietnam vets to be in support of this. No matter how liberal they are!
