When a RINO Senator is contemplating switching parties, I usually say “good riddance to bad rubbish,” especially since it likely wouldn’t reduce the number of Republicans in each Senate committee and sub-committee and would allow the GOP to name a replacement Republican in each of the committees and sub-committees on which Specter sits (thus making each committee and sub-committee a bit less liberal). However, if Specter switches and becomes a 100% liberal instead of a 70% liberal he may provide the 60th vote for cloture on all sorts of harmful bills, so we need to tread carefully here. Still, I can’t imagine that Specter running as a Democrat would be a stronger Democrat Senate candidate in 2010 than, say, Congressman Tim Holden or (obviously) Gov. Ed Rendell, so at the very least I hope that Specter switches to the Democrats prior to a tough Democrat candidate jumping into the race.
They already have 60 cloture votes including the Maine Twins. Those two could easily switch parties as well were it not for the fact they wouldn’t be embraced by ME Democrats, who are so moonbat as to make the two of them look like Jesse Helms types.
