Yes there was, it was a '60s San Francisco psychedelic band. They even had a Top40 hit.

You can build one too, in an ultralight class aircraft as well. I thought about getting the kit and building one and flying the un-friendly skies ;)

I prefer the flying machine to the rock group. Now you could do a reprise on the Fokker Triplane to balance things out.
