Congresswoman With Ties to Bank Helped Seek Funds By ERIC LIPTON and JIM RUTENBERG

WASHINGTON — Top banking regulators were taken aback late last year when a California congresswoman helped set up a meeting in which the chief executive of a bank with financial ties to her family asked them for up to $50 million in special bailout funds, Treasury officials said.

Representative Maxine Waters, Democrat of California, requested the September meeting on behalf of executives at OneUnited, one of the nation’s largest black-owned banks. Ms. Waters’s husband, Sidney Williams, had served on the bank’s board of directors until early last year and has owned at least $250,000 in stock in the institution. Treasury officials said the session with nearly a dozen senior banking regulators had been intended to allow minority-owned banks and their trade association, to discuss the losses they incurred from the federal takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. But Kevin Cohee, OneUnited’s chief executive, instead seized the opportunity to plead for special assistance for his bank, federal officials said.

“Here you had a tiny community bank that comes in and they are not proposing a broader policy—they were asking for help for themselves,” said Steve Lineberry, a former Treasury aide who attended the meeting. “I don’t remember that ever happening before.”

Ms. Waters declined on Tuesday to comment about the meeting, or to say if her husband still owns OneUnited. Her staff released two letters that that showed the meeting was initially called to discuss industry concerns broadly, not matters related just to OneUnited.

The congresswoman, a member of the House Financial Services Committee, did not disclose her ties to OneUnited to Treasury officials, who said they learned of them only later and found the connection

And what is our government going to do about it? Want to guess? These people like Waters are an insult to honest black people. Are there any honest blacks in out government? Would they please stand up so we can see who they are? Right now, I would be hard placed to name one.

Silly people. Legislators of color do not have apparent conflicts of interest. That’s a racist concept.

Maxine Waters is a pitiful old lady with nothing useful to contribute. She stammered her way into the socialist hall of fame by telling the oil company executives that she wanted the government to take over their industry. She protected the Fannie/Freddie bunch and helped cause the mortgage meltdown.

She is a doddering old fool. She is a rascist. She is hate-filled to the brim.

Another liberal survivor of a botched abortion. Sucked out her brains and left that ugly old mean woman.

And yet the media REFUSES to label this a CULTURE OF CORRUPTION in the Democrat party. It exists through and through.

Barney Frank should be on the other side answering questions in ANY investigations.

Oh come now, surely you've heard of the Keating Five scandal, at the very least, Mr. Lineberry.

About Waters and her unethical behavior here, thing is, I've been asking Democrat friends for years now, just why they expected Congressionally-entrenched leopards to change their spots when they were returned to a majority, no answers forthcoming, of course. This should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone at all.
