I think you may be on to something!
Does it seem odd that Obama is going to enact a gigantic tax penalty on marriage and, at the same time, homos in California are trying to entirely ban marriage between any two people as a way around Prop 8? Is it just a coincidence that simultaneous efforts emerge from DC and CA attempting to destroy marriage?
Nice try. My dad was an accountant for many years and says the IRS doesn’t recognize “sham” transactions. If you are divorced in name only, the IRS will ignore the divorce. I can see doctors’ offices closing in October because they don’t want to jump into a higher bracket by earning the 250,000th dollar.
It is naive to expect those 5% of top wage earners are just going to roll over and cough up thousands more in taxes. The very wealthy can afford tax advisers to ferret out loopholes in our byzantine tax code, divert income out of the country or just put off plans to grow their businesses. The small but successful business owner will raise prices on the goods and services they provide to consumers, make do with fewer workers by laying off employees or in some cases close their businesses all together as it may be better to retire than continue working for the government’s benefit. This is trickle down economics..tax increases at the top trickle down to everybody in the economy.
It is also much cheaper for married people. The efficiency is astounding...
That said, I am not supportive of any income tax, so this disparity won’t get support from me. I read a few of the posts and it seems that the added efficiency hadn’t been mentioned yet, so I thought I would bring it up.
I can also see high paid professionals creating multiple corporations in order to divide income to avoid the higher tax rates.
The “rich” WILL refuse to be eaten.
“There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers.”

I know I am. They can’t tax me for money I don’t earn or they don’t know about. And I’m nowhere close to the upper 5% of income earners.
Zero is about to create an underground economy, and there’s not a damn thing he can do about it.
I refuse to obey like a good little serf. I fully intend to do everything I possibly can to oppose Zero and his government’s agenda.
