This is California, remember. How much time did Emily Harris (Symbionese Liberation Army) spend for the shotgun murder of Mrs. Opshal when she finally was convicted? So little time that far from being justice, in any meaningful sense, it was an insult. And the driver for that robbery/murder Kathleen Soliah/Sara Jane Olsen is getting out on parole within a very short time...
Even if they are charged, tried, and convicted, I would not expect to see a death sentence, nor even a life sentence, for either of those two worms.
The one difference between this pair of dirtbags, and the other pair mentioned above, is the fact that the deceased victim in this case was LEO, which *might*, but only might, lead to a stiff sentence...

The LEO is the only reason I thought they could be put on death row.
Of course the libatards in CA would drum up some information that the LEO was a card carrying member of the Republicans and probably would have voted for Ronald Reagan and certainly not Jerry Brown so they would petition the supreme court that on those grounds they should be released and that in fact if they hadn’t killed that LEO he probably would have been the officer that would have shot and killed Rodney King.
