"This year it's peanut farmers that are taking a beating because the media doesn't report that the peanuts came from China."

I have read several accounts that represent that the contamination of the peanut products came during the manufacturing process, and that it is highly unlikely that the raw peanuts themselves were contaminated.

I agree that the plant was a sewer and was ultimately responsible. As far as the peanuts are concerned we don’t know if they were contaminated or not. My point is that the media didn’t report the whole story so Americans can’t make their own informed choices.

Other processing plants in the area were buying from local growers who have been hit with a severe drop in sales. Many of those growers will go under because of a false perception that American peanuts are unsafe.

Something I’ve been thinking about this morning is the mindset. It seems that every time we see a company buying from outside the country, a “we don’t care” attitude sets in. After all, how many companies have been caught selling tainted products from China only to turn around and buy more tainted products from the same place.

Maybe it was all caused by a disgruntled employee taking a dump in a processor the day he was being fired.
