Everett Dirksen ((R-Illinois, US Senator) 1950s and '60s

I'm old enough to remember the quote in context and I believe that Dirksen was talking about millions not trillions. That is only a 10+6 increase in magnitude!

Regards,
GtG

PS I have a sneaking hunch that 90% of the electorate has no idea what the difference between million, billion and trillion is thanks to our "dumbed down" education system.

I too remember Dirksen make that remark in black and white on TV. You are correct, in the 1950s and '60s a million dollars was a huge amount of money. Today it seems to be chicken feed for government.

What does one TRILLION dollars look like?
