911 is the number used to call the PD.

No, genius, 911 is the EMERGENCY CONTACT NUMBER for police, fire, ambulance.

Unless it's a genuine emergency, intelligent people will look in the front of the telephone directory and call the LISTED NON-EMERGENCY contact number for whichever service they wish to contact.

As another poster wrote, the MINIMUM fine for being as stupid as this woman should be $911, PER CALL.

It is the contact number for PUBLIC SAFETY ASSISTANCE. The legislature gave neither you, or any other bozo, badge, or not, the power to determine the validity of a call for PUBLIC SAFETY ASSISTANCE, other than to determine if the call was made falsely. A violation of FL812.014(a) was in fact in progress, SO THE CALL WAS VALID!

That might be true where YOU live. In other places (where I live in My little town for one) you call 911 for all related issues. Reason: we have no PD, only occasional patrol by Sheriff's Deputies. Also, no pay phones so no easy access to Sheriff's Department phone number. So, we call 911 and they route call to proper agency.

Where do you find a phone book these days, excepting your home? I forgot my cell phone one night and had to call my son - I drove 10 miles to places that used to have pay phones and they’d all been removed. So no phone books. When I once called the local police to report my NON emergency - my son’s bike had been stolen - they told me I had to call 911. I said “But it’s not an emergency!” and they told me I still had to call 911.
