LOL! I know what you mean! I grew up just off the shores of Lake Erie...It can be terrifying...Now living in AZ, I'm talking 20 knot winds in the large reservoir lakes here, and yes no fish is worth it. besides who the hell can enjoy fishing when your fighting even 6ft swells in a 21ft. boat?

Lake Erie is the one that scares me the most. It’s so shallow and it can whip up to a fury in a very short time. More than once I have chickened out and just stayed another day at Put In Bay. Call me gutless, but gutless and ALIVE.

I grew up with Lake Erie in our backyard. We had a 8ft (guessing) rowboat that my dad used for fishing. We had an apple tree at the edge of the cliff leading down to the water and it was probably a 20ft drop easy, maybe 30ft. We used to chain the rowboat to the apple tree, and we still lost several rowboats to the waves when storms rolled in.
