Limbaugh's latest attacker: RNC's Steele By: Jonathan Martin March 2, 2009 12:07 PM EST
On the same night he was offering the keynote address to the Conservative Political Action Conference, Rush Limbaugh drew criticism from an unlikely source: Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele.
In a little-noticed interview Saturday night, Steele dismissed Limbaugh as an entertainer whose show is incendiary and ugly.
Steeles criticism makes him the highest-ranking Republican to pick a fight with the popular and polarizing conservative talk show host.
But the new RNC chairmans extraordinary comments wont sit well with the millions of conservative listeners Limbaugh draws each week, and Steele aides scrambled to limit the damage Monday morning by trying to change the subject.
Rahm Emanuel and the Democrats know they lose an argument with the Republican Party on substance so they are building straw men to attack and distract, said RNC spokesman Alex Conant.
The feud between radio host Rush Limbaugh and Rahm Emanuel makes great political theater, but it is a sideshow to the important work going on in Washington. RNC Chairman Michael Steele and elected Republicans are focused on fighting for reform and winning elections. The Democrats problem is that the American people are growing skeptical of the massive government spending being pushed by Congressional leaders like Nancy Pelosi.
Limbaugh, asked to respond, said hed save his counter-attack for his listeners.
Ill handle it on the radio, he wrote in an e-mail.
In an interview on CNN with D.L. Hughley, Steele assured that he, not Limbaugh, was in charge of the party before saying that he wanted to put the right-wing talker into context.
Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer, Steele said. Rush Limbaugh, his whole thing is entertainment. Yes its incendiary, yes its ugly.

I’ve heard Steele say some of the right things, but I guess he really DOESN’T have it in him to be the real conservative that we need now.
Damn!
I got his letter, so now I will have to respond and tell him how much money I won’t be sending. Goodbye!
Yup.
Now, I'm a pretty forgiving guy. I'm willing to hear Steele's explanation, because the words were given in a heated exchange.
I really, really, really want to believe that Michael Steele is sufficiently conservative for the job; so, I'll reserve judgment for now.
My ha'penny donation depends on his statements.
.
They spin everything Republicans/conservatives do—good, bad, indifferent. We can’t let their propaganda dictate what we do and say when we are in the right. Limbaugh is just coming on here in Denver so I will have to wait to hear his comments.
And when they call, tell them exactly why. I think it’s time for Rush to step up to the plate and start another party. It’s more than just about him now....we need to organize and go forward. There are times in life when greatness is thrust upon you...this is the time for Rush..He didn’t ask for it, but it’s here...Since the MSM has made him the party leader, he may as well do it.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! don’t rip up the request. Send it back with a note on it about how you feel. it’s free postage
Steele’s job is to stand up for elected Republican officials, not Rush Limbaugh, who is, in fact, an entertainer.
I think Steele was just saying Limbaugh is provocative.
>> Please, please, PLEASE don’t give the GOP any of your money.
Yes, sir! That part won’t be hard...
>> If they call your house, then tell them to take you off their phone lists
What?? And give up the chance to scream obscenities at their country club a$$es? :-)
>> & off their mailing lists
What?? And give up the fun of stuffing their postpaid envelopes with everything under the sun EXCEPT a check, and mailing it back to them at their expense? :-)
Yep. Now that have sufficiently vented. A house divided against itself cannot stand. I will let Steele know that I don’t agree with his take on Rush and give him a chance to explain.
Rush is reading the riot act to Steele right now...
Listening to the first hour now.
Rush just cleaned Steele’s clock on the air.
Mr Steele , like Colin Powell, appears to have the deep seated need to NOT appear as an Uncle Tom especially when being interviewed by an all black group. Notice he continues to change his responses and shade his answers as Hughley admits past offenses.
Unfortunatly, this is some of the same old black apologizing for being a succesful black. Just as the majority of white people will run in terror if the term racist is brought up, so does the educated black man/woman run when he/she is even peripherally shaded as not being black enough.
Do we need this as the RNC chair. I suggest not.
Michael Steele should resign. Period.
I also stand corrected, re: Rush's comment: Steele is the head of the RNC, not the Republican party.
Steele had better nip this thing in the bud fast... the GOP and conservatives being continually divided serves us no good purpose.
>> Rush is reading the riot act to Steele right now...
Hmmm. Rush’s trillion-watt megaphone against Steele’s dim bulb... don’t think the boy thought that one through.
Steele is not only too liberal to run the GOP, he’s also a bit too BRAINLESS!
If that clock is between Steele's ears, I think it has about 3 parts. I know why Steele did it. He was just speaking the "truth" to his community. It was flat out cowardly.
