Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), who is also an OB/GYN, told CNSNews.com on Friday that many medical practitioners, including himself, will go to prison before agreeing to engage in medical practices they morally oppose, such as abortion.
Earlier that same day, the Obama administration had announced it was reviewing a Bush administration regulation known as the conscience clause. That Health and Human Services regulation protects health-care workers at federally funded institutions from having to engage in practices that violate their moral or religious beliefs. These practices include performing or referring abortions, performing sterilizations, or giving or receiving training in these practices.
Federal funding is widespread in the health care sector owing to such programs as Medicare, Medicaid, the newly expanded SCHIP insurance program for children, and the many billions in federal funds spent each year on medical research.
The Obama administrations review is considered the precursor to rescinding the regulation.
I think a lot of us will go to jail, Coburn told CNSNews.com when asked what would happen if the administration reverses the policy. Lets see them prosecute the first one of us for not doing that.
By that comment, Coburn meant that doctors, himself included, are willing to defy the law before agreeing to perform medical procedures that violate their conscience, a Coburn spokesman clarified.
Coburn spoke to CNSNews.com after he delivered a speech at the annual Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., on Friday.
The good news is that we will all learn to love Big Brother.
______________
Please don’t include all Americans in that statement. I will never learn to live Big Brother. Never! I would leave this country before that would happen.
You are assuming that they would have that option, they may not.
Step-by-step they have a million ways to turn the screws. That’s why we NEED explicit protections for conscience. It needs to be ILLEGAL TO DISCRIMINATE against health workers who won’t cooperate with abortion - euthanasia -infanticide - suicicde - the many manifestations of the Death Project.
Good post. Last year we went through the Holocaust Museum in DC. I remember a certain exhibit making an impression on me, and that was the one where they talked about the doctor’s role. They were convinced of and told to practice ‘racial hygeine’ and euthanasia of the ‘unfit’ in the name of making their country stronger. They were explicitly brainwashed into thinking that this was their patriotic duty, and of course, only those willing to go along with it were ‘allowed’ to practice due to discrimination and coercions which we will soon see in our country.
I just want everyone to imagine the nightmare a ‘health’ care system in which the ONLY practicioners are people that know ahead of time that they will be expected to, and are accepting of, abortion, euthanasia and denial of care. As of now, there are always some that fit that description, but soon it may be a requirement of the field, so imagine who it will attract and what the implications will be of having these people in charge of your health. Death Project is an apt description, indeed.
It is already here because you have rejected the Founding Fathers Vision for our Nation.
Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." --October 11, 1798 John Adams [1778 to the General Assembly of the State of Virginia] "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with
human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it.
Weve staked the future of all our political institutions upon our capacity
to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.
James Madison
The writer's assumptions are based on Obama being the Anti-Christ, I am not ready to make that leap yet. But the signs of the times, are certainly pointing to Armageddon. But we Christians are supposed to look up, because our redemption draws nigh.
Lie is a bit strong, he sees a similarity in his statement. But in any case the end times are not totally hidden, to those who walk in the light, but only to those who walk in darkness. We are cautioned to observe the signs of his coming.
Remember Jesus was very disgruntled on Ash Wednesday, because the people did not recognize the signs of His coming.
I just made a point on another thread that Medicare and Medicaid insurance payments made to hospitals because the patient who obtained their service(s) was a Medicare or Medicaid participant is not *federal funding* and not in the same category as federal dollars for research or federal dollars to pay for updating the hospital, purchasing new equipment, etc. Am I mistaken, then? Am I to understand that any hospital that refuses to perform abortions will thus be denied payment of assignment claims? Medicare and Medicaid will be allowed to refuse payment of legitimate charges on the basis that a particular hospital chooses to exercise its First Amendment rights??
If this conscience clause EO was signed by G. W. Bush and is now being rescinded, what were Medicare and Medicaid doing prior to? Why is this recision coming across as NOW it will be a mortal blow to Catholic hospitals if they were surviving prior to Dubya's EO?? I'm confused on this point.
Step-by-step they have a million ways to turn the screws. That's why we NEED explicit protections for conscience. It needs to be ILLEGAL TO DISCRIMINATE against health workers who won't cooperate with abortion - euthanasia -infanticide - suicicde - the many manifestations of the Death Project.
But isn't it? At the very least, if not illegal, unconstitutional? If a person refuses to cooperate, be it actual performance or assisting the physician or being the post-op nurse, what-have-you, in those practices which violate his conscience or his religious belief, to deny him his living, all those categories you've listed, seems to me to violate his First Amendment rights. I applaud Dr. Coburn for making this stand, public statement and would tend to believe he would be the first doctor to take his case, should it necessitate, all the way to the Supreme Court. This is OUTRAGEOUS (and sadly, no surprise, considering what we all knew would be the fall-out of an 0bama election).
This is an exceedingly important point. Medical students and healthcare professionals who have kevorkianized consciences will be selected for advancement. Healers who have old-fashioned ethical standards which forbid killing the patients, will be professionall blocked, marginalized, or --- if detected early enough --- pre-emptively excluded from the profession.
You are correct about the law and the Constitution. What you’re saying is sane and sensible. Unfortunately, you will not be making these decisions.
I'm not that old...but I'd like to leave my kids a country that resembles the country I grew up in.
Right now...that vision isn't happening.
I'd like to think....that I would have millions of people join me.
I just think Dr. Coburn is attempting to be polite at this point in time.
Be not worried that Oklahoman's won't rally around our Senator on this point........
As God as my witness....I surely hope they go that far.
You know.....much of what is going on reminds me of a couple things.
One being that famous quote from Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto after his attack on Pearl Harbor, "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."...
The other is the Ents from the Lord of the Rings...by J.R. Tolkien...They were very, very, very slow to become agitated and militant....but in the end they understood that it would be the end of their world, and their lives. And they finally took action......
I can only pray and hope that is how many of the American people will react....
Prophecy never says anything about Muslim....
What are you basing this post on.....???
Another reason to defeat national health care, the doctors won’t be allowed to refuse to do a procedure like an abortion if it’s against your conscience or morality. They’ll be fired or put on probation, just at a time when the nation would need MORE doctors, not fewer doctors.
Obama’s Friday order to Catholic hospitals:
Shut up, commit abortions or I’ll shut you down

I’m at that point, too. But I don’t want to get myself incarcerated for a foolish reason and be removed from the fight.
I think there are many out there that won’t sit idly by and watch our country being destroyed.
Amen.............
“The opposite of life is DEATH, not choice.”
Great way to put it.
Our country needs our prayers now more than ever.
