Cantor Rejects Rush Limbaugh Rhetoric
ABC News ^ | 03/01/09

Posted on 03/01/2009 11:30:09 AM PST by cc2k

During our exclusive interview on "This Week," Republican Whip Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., rejected comments made by Rush Limbaugh at the CPAC conference.

<Snip> Limbaugh said Saturday to the conservative conference, "What is so strange about being honest and saying I want Barack Obama to fail if his mission is to restructure and reform this country so that capitalism and individual liberty are not its foundations?"

Cantor today rejected Limbaugh's rhetoric.

"So the Rush Limbaugh approach of hoping the president fails is not the Eric Cantor, House Republican approach?" I asked.

"Absolutely not," Cantor said. "And I don't -- I don't think anyone wants anything to fail right now. We have such challenges. What we need to do is we need to put forth solutions to the problems that real families are facing today."

Here is the email address he suggests using from his website.
I sent him a cordial note letting him know how I feel, and how the
left really sees him. Not as a friend, but a foe. A foolish foe.

Look, it was a weak answer but it wasn’t a repudiation of Rush or conservative principles.

Also Rush originally said he wanted Obama’s POLICIES to fail, Snufllofoacgoas did not express what Rush said and meant properly.

Cantor has to stand for election and as such cannot be advocating failure

That's crap. If you heard Rush's speech you would know he was advocating success not failure. The 2006 mentality seems to be alive even today--cower from the electorate, act guilty and abdicate any courageous shot at leadership and for gods sake don't advocate a good free market alternative to socialism. Then hope the voters don't notice you're singing an octave higher than before.

Stand up and be counted, that’s all Limbaugh is asking. No we do NOT want our voices uncounted, we do not want Liberty ruined, the founding principles perverted and the rights of men, and the G-d who granted them, as asserted in the Declaration of Independence forgotten. For those reasons Obama must fail, and we must publicly demand that he fail for he has set themselves against those principles.

IMHO, if he (and we) do not recognize that a guy like Stephanopoulos is in the enemy camp...then we are blind as bats.

Cantor was faced with he thought was a no win answer...but I would have been direct and said exactly that in as much as Obama's legislation and initiatives strike at the heart of our core values that, you bet, in those instances we want him to fail every time.

All, the original story is at http://blogs.abcnews.com/george/2009/03/cantor-rejects.html

SumProVita wrote:
My guess is that this is a communication snafu. I doubt he truly understands what Rush ACTUALLY said with regard to this.
Then he should have answered something like, "I haven't heard all of Rush Limbaugh's comments yesterday."

Is it that hard for people to recognize the distinction?

You have a valid point.

But the question was a trap.

And instead of making his way around the trap, Mr. Cantor chose to jump right into the trap.

The best answer would have been something like, "I want the American people to succeed. And I want us to get back no track with real economic growth and real opportunities. But we Republicans have serious differences with the President on policy issues, and where we disagree, I intend to communicate our alternative, our message of hope and change based on our stronger principles and beliefs."

I have to kind of chuckle here. The idiotic GOP doesn’t realize they played their very last chip in the 2008 election. I think, they think, they can one more time tell all of us if we don’t vote for their RINOlite candidate we will have Obama. *snicker* Well. We already have Obama, unless they want to offer up the anti-Obama, they will lose.

That old dog ain’t gonna hunt anymore. If the US is gonna get pissed down the tube, let Obama do the pissin’.

This is a transparent attempt by the drive-by media colluding with Rahm Emanuel and the White House to use Limbaugh to drive a wedge through the GOP.

You are correct, some people here have no concept of not shooting until you have a target. they all want to get in a circle and shoot inward.

See this video of Alan Keyes. No communication snafu here:

[Alan Keyes on “PopModal.com” calls Hussein Obama a “communist” and a “usurper.”]

Give it up, dude. There's a certain percentage here on FR that has a vested interest in dividing conservatives as much as possible with bogus, dishonest nonsense like the title of this thread, etc. There's a similar percentage who can then be reliably counted on to jerk the knee without bothering to fact-check, and then we have the percentage who are just "ain't-never-gonna-vote-fer-the-Republicans-again!!!!" whiners.

We need a Conservative Party, not Democrat lite.

So having to stand for election means you have to check your spine at the door ???
