John McCain, IMO, wasn't the right candidate. McLaim was handed to us by the MSM and crossover democRAT voters during the Primaries. They knew he would bomb for the Republican Party and that's why we got him. Of course, those stupids that claim they are Republicans that voted for him didn't help either.
