We had a guy that wanted to spend a bunch of money on mailboxes. Told 2/3rds of the community that he didn’t care if they didn’t want him to, he was prez and was gonna do it anyway.

he almost didnt make it out alive

I’m still hoping he gets stomach cancer.

Ha! He sounds like Barack Obama. Maybe someday we can get the same reaction out of the taxpayers. Angry HOA members are worse than crocodiles.

When you go to the link for the condos, they list area code 972. That is OK for that region of Dallas. But the HOA President, and his son, list area code 301 which is Baltimore. Something is up with that.

Don't join a HOA. That would be smart.

Agreed.

Also don't buy where a HOA is in the contract.

That is part of taking care of your property.

My sister recently considered selling her ranch, with water and mining rights, and buying a "low maintenance" condo.

Until I explained the HOA to her checkbook.

<shower tiles must be clean” or the owners could be fined $200 a day.

I read the article. What kind of nutcases are on the board? I’m surprised someone hasn’t offed the HOA president by now - this is Texas, right? I’m sure they’d get off.

On the other hand, it also looked like people didn’t read their assessment notices. I take issue with the assessments - but you can’t protect yourself unless you read the notices and speak up.

>>File a lawsuit against the HOA<<

Well yes and no.

I lived in a 8 unit condo with a communist condo president. She wanted us to be a collective where we all got along and she was Stalin looking out for the greater good.

Three of the 8 owners were Vietnamese and would not ever speak-up at a meeting even though they were against the commissar’s proposals.

There were many spending projects that were stupid and unnecessary and they always upped the condo payment or an additional one-time payment. (For example the remodeling of our rear patio’s cost $3K per owner and was not really an improvement.) If I objected I always lost even though I knew the other 6 owners were backing me but afraid to voice their disapproval publicly.

So if I sued the condo assn then the defense lawyer’s fees would come back to me in higher insurance or an additional levy for the condo’s legal fee’s.

I will never live again were there is an HOA - plane and simple.

1) Don’t buy into a HOA

2) Don’t buy a condo, townhouse, duplex, or anything that’s attached to another’s home.

Sounds like they got their own little Hitler running things there.
There's no way that guy should be able to build an addition like than and not have a permit and design approved by a structural engineer. You don't go around just cutting trusses like that. He needs to see the building permit. Plus the remodeling contractor needs to be registered with the Texas Residential Construction Commission.

Otherwise ... I was cleaning my shotgun and it accidentially went off and blasted a hole through the ceiling.

Ha! He sounds like Barack Obama.

This seems to be a pretty analogous to what is happening to the US as a whole. The HOA board,(congress and Obama) has decided that we need some improvements at confiscatory rates. If we don't pay up, tough.

He needs to see the building permit.

Apparently there is no permit. Construction has been ordered to be stopped.
