Thanks for the tip. I’m picking up my Fed ID to purchase firearms from my local PD soon. Any recommendations on a good deer hunting gun? I heard there are caliber restrictions in NJ due to the proximity of housing to hunting areas.

Any recommendations on a good deer hunting gun? I use a Winchester 54 in 30-06. A lot will depend on your local laws and the type of land and terrain you'll be hunting. There are others here at FR far more knowledgeable than I on this subject. FReeper Squantos comes to mind.

Unless you're hunting elk or moose or, at the other end, those dog size deer of Mexico, a 30-06 is a reliable caliber for just about anything.
I have a Remington 700

Get a shotgun, too...in case you like wild poultry

I heard there are caliber restrictions in NJ due to the proximity of housing to hunting areas. Go online and get the hunting regs for NJ. They will tell you all you need to know about what weapon you can use to hunt deer. Some states only allow shotguns with slugs due to population density in some areas.
