The only real solution (short of force) is a massive tax protest to choke the government of the money it needs to operate. Then there's always the Seven Days in May scenario.....
Nice idea, but it won't work. The closer you get to the E-ring, the less you're a soldier and the more you're a politician. Case in point

If push comes to a really ugly shove, I'd expect about 95% of enlisted personnel and NCOs to fight for their country, along with about 80% of the lieutenants and captains. For light colonels, 60%; full birds, 40%; and anything with stars on its shoulders, 20% and dropping, as they get farther from their roots and closer to their dream-come-true of absolute personal power.
