Could we just start the process for getting this guy impeached? I think it's time. High crimes and misdemeanors undermining the U.S. Constitution would do it, I think. I know that to do this, we have to take back the House, and then the Senate (for the trial).

Let's get going. There's a bit of work ahead of us.

Back in ‘71, I believe it was, Massachusetts representative Robert Drinan introduced the first motion to impeach Ricard Nixon, at a time when there was no real reason for doing so, and when there was nil public support for such a stunt. It's just that Drinan (an ordained minister) was ferociously antiwar, and wanted to use impeachment as his device to vent.

As the good reverend said at the time, “I can introduce this motion every ten minutes if I want to.”

Well, he didn't do that, but the approach is, I think, viable.

He was, at the time, regarded as something of a flake. That was the public perception, anyway. So when he did this, even within his allies, there was just that kind of wink and nod, you know? Just let the old man go.

But even though he was pretty much ignored by every one, even as it was being reported in the press, the important thing was, his actions and thought processes were implanted in the public’s consciousness. That all-important first step was taken, and even if was introduced by a snowflake, it had entered the public debate, even if at first just on the periphery.

Today, of course, we have a much less sympathetic and public-oriented mass media than we did back then. But we have (for now) the Internet, talk radio, a few select magazines, and self-publishing.

Empires and tyrants have been brought down with less.

So, yes - impeach this bastard! And do it Monday!

CA....
